I've noticed that that sort of thing happens in one hobby after another. X comes along and people start collecting X; once X becomes really popular the producers of X make more and more different Xs, and eventually the collectors of X get discouraged because they can no longer afford to buy every X. I believe this is what happened to the stamp collecting hobby, which was immensely popular about fifty years ago. Now it's hard to find anyone to buy a stamp collection.

As for football helmets I can imagine all the alternate designs being a real impediment to anyone trying to form a complete collection. As an example I have 18 different designs documented for Virginia Tech from 1960 to present, but half of those have been used just during the last three years.

It is entirely conceivable that the number of new designs will surpass my ability to keep up, but I intend to try for at least one more year. I probably spend too much time working on the web site, but it is lots of fun and very interesting.

You're welcome, and thank you!

I know what you mean. Like the first person, I was turned off to collecting baseball/football cards when it seemed that each brand had more subsets than Oregon has uniform combinations.

Yeah, it seems like college football is just turning into a circus with all the conference realignment and teams breaking out new helmets for the sake of breaking out new helmets. This has gotten utterly ridiculous in my opinion.

I do hope you are able to keep up with the madness as I have thoroughly enjoyed this site since discovering it about 8 years ago.

I echo this sentiment Charles.
