Subject: Continental Football League

I'm not sure if you've ever addressed this directly, but do you plan on adding the Continental Football League at any point? They were a professional, national, league from 1965 to 1969, falling within the timeline of this site and co-existed with the NFL and AFL. I think they should be included, but that's my opinion. What do you think Mr. Arey?

Sorry for the late reply. I have actually spent quite a bit of time looking into that league, and the problem is that I can find almost no information regarding any of the teams' helmet designs. At one time I thought I might be able to come up with artwork for one or two helmets, but for the vast majority of the teams I couldn't even find basic information like what color the helmets were.

It has been a few years since I looked into that league, but unless somebody has uploaded some photographs since then coverage of the Continental Football League would appear to be a hopeless task. (Unfortunately, since the league existed at precisely the time when the designs would likely be fascinating).

If anybody has any information about CFL teams' helmet designs, I would be interested to hear what you've got.

There is plenty of information on Ben Haberek's old site. You can find it on the web archive.

Hmm, something about that site looks familiar 😄

I can't use artwork or drawings of helmets as reference material because I have no idea what sort of "scholarship" went into producing those images. Was he really able to find color photographs of all those teams' helmets in 2008? The internet has twenty times as many websites now as it did in 2008, and I can still find color photographs for no more than one or two of those teams.

I remember reading a few years ago that there was no known surviving film from any COFL football game. Sadly, that information may be lost, unless it's stashed away in boxes of family photographs somewhere.
