Sam Houston State, ACU, SFAU and Lamar along with Southern Utha got invited to the WAC. Announcement is in a few weeks. It is also rumored when the announcement is made, UTRGV would be adding football according to reports. In a year or two, West Texas A&M would make the leap to D1 to join the WAC.

One week after announcing the acceptance of membership invitations, Western Athletic Conference Commissioner Jeff Hurd announced that the official join date for Abilene Christian University, Lamar University, Sam Houston State University and Stephen F. Austin State University has been moved up to July 1, 2021.
