Thanks, I had seen that one before, but the photograph was not as good as this one. They did indeed use two different logos on the two sides for an unknown period of time.

SF State is one of the several defunct California teams for which historical information is extremely difficult to find - there are probably several interesting designs for these teams awaiting 'rediscovery'. While a great many colleges and universities have digitized and published their old yearbooks, football media guides, etc in recent years, there has not been much such activity from San Francisco State, Sonoma State, UCSB, Cal State Hayward, UC Riverside, Cal Poly Pomona, and others, at least not yet. Hence the only fragmentary histories for each of these teams at the website.

Even University of the Pacific, which was Division I-A, is obscure before about 1980.

Speaking of which, this looks like it might be a color photo of black and white picture of the helmet you have listed as 1971

But also note it looks like some say "Gators" and some say "SF" on the side.
