Subject: Northwestern correction + 2012 order
In reply to: Mac 's message, "Helmets 11/2" on 12:48:36 11/03/13 Sun

Disregard the previous message: I forgot about the two black Pro Combat helmets, and apparently Oregon is up to "S".
So for designation of the Northwestern Wildcats helmets, letting A=current purple, B=purple with N-flag, C=black PC with wildcat, D=black PC with N, E=white with purple N, F=WWP flag:
2013's order is EAA-ACA-AAA-F with two games to go. Most likely it will finish with AC (the twelfth game against archrival Illinois), with an extra bowl helmet should they make a bowl.
2012's order is ABA-AAA-ACA-AAC-D (the last was in the Gator Bowl).

Woah! This is notable. KSU had worn the same helmet design uninterrupted for every consecutive game since 1989. I believe they were one of the longest running teams in FBS.

Teams with long streaks still alive:
Tennessee: 1983
Alabama: 1984 (if you ignore the subtle houndstooth design they did a couple of years ago)
Penn State: 1987
Ball State: 1990
Ole Miss: 1995
Clemson: 1996

Penn state wore #42 on the side of their helmets for their final game last year as a tribute to senior Michael mauti, who couldn't play due to injury. And if you ignore the houndstooth, wouldn't you also ignore the camo?

You're right, I forgot about the Penn State tribute number. Regarding the houndstooth, it was so incredibly subtle that most people didn't notice it was there. You would need a pretty big HDTV to see it on close-up shots. KSU's camo was very obvious.

Thanks, I had missed that one, or forgotten about it, or something, but have added it to the site now.
