Thanks, it's great to finally get some information about that team. The current incarnation is a club-level team but UNB was an official college team in the 1970s.

Thomas Pinckard studied law at UNB from 1962 to 1969

Here is a team photo from 1967 that shows the team with a different helmet and Thomas Pinckard does not appear in the photo.http://unbredbombers.ca/archive-1967/

So we can assume the photo of Thomas was taken sometime between 1962 and 1966. 1966 is when he made the punt that he is credited for in the story

Just found another article the states the picture of Thomas is from 1964.

There is also a colour team photo from 1966 that show the team with black helmets with red stripes and what looks like a logo on the helmet.

The Bombers clearly have a logo on their helmets
