Joines makes second team

The Record

University of the Pacific sophomore middle blocker Jennifer Joines was named to the AVCA All-America second team Wednesday for the second time.

Jenna Moscovic, a senior setter at Texas A&M from St. Mary's High, was named a first-team All-American.

Last season, Joines became the fourth freshman in Pacific history to be named an All-American. This season, she becomes the third player in school history to be named an All-American in her freshman and sophomore years, joining Elaina Oden (1985-86) and Charlotte Johansen (1991-92).

Joines finished with the second-highest single-season kills total in school history with 601, trailing Elsa Stegemann, who had 642 in 1999. Joines also recorded the fifth-most blocks in one season in school history with 191. Last week, Joines earned her second All-West Region team distinction, and she was named first-team All-Big West Conference for the second time.

Joines led the Tigers in hitting percentage (.313), kills and blocks. She was third on the team in aces with 33 and fourth in digs with 199. Joines led the Tigers in kills in 22 matches, in blocks 28 times and recorded 20 or more kills in 10 matches. She's on pace to become the first Pacific player to record 2,000 career kills.

Noticeably absent from the list was Tigers senior outside hitter Jamie Hamm, who set Pacific's career digs record, recorded more than 20 double-doubles and became the first Tiger to amass more than 400 kills and 400 digs in the same season.

Pacific went 28-8, finished second in the Big West and reached the regional semifinals before losing to Arizona 3-0 last Thursday.
