Subject: HELP!!! Need All The Ribbon and Claypot Crafts/Sites You Know Of!!!

Our craft supply room at our church has been the recent recipient of LOTS AND LOTS of craft supplies that church members and others don't want anymore! My husband, Mom and I went down and helped 1 lady bring in an SUV FULL of crafts. There were at least 6 BIG boxes and lots of littler boxes.
Two weeks ago when I went in, there were at least 2 more boxes from someone.
Last week, there were about 3 more. One was a BIG plastic tub FULL of all spools of ribbon!!!
Then last night, the SUV lady brought in another big box and a small box of clay pots.

The craft room was getting so out of control that I couldn't stand it anymore. I wanted that stuff put up!!! So, my husband and I went down on Monday and went through all the boxes and grouped or sorted the things into the supplies we already had. I did pitch some of the things I didn't think we could use. It took us 2 hours, but we were kind of in a hurry as my husband had to go to work by 2PM or I would have sorted a little more!!! But, it is SOOOOOO much better now!!!

We now have a TON of ribbon, in all colors, widths and lengths (not much wired ribbon, though) and a TON of claypots in sizes ranging from about 1/2" to about 8"!!!

So, I need any and all ribbon and claypot crafts/sites you know of, PLEASE! We need to use some of that stuff to make things for the bazaar! There are LOTS of other craft supplies, but ribbon and claypots are what we seem to have the most of right now.

Thank you so much in advance!
Patty

Oh, thanks Linda and Julie for the ideas! I like both of those ideas! Over the last week, I've noticed several claypot windchimes on people's porches here. That would use several at a time, too. A couple I'd seen had 1 big claypot with several tiny ones hanging down underneath. I kind of liked that.
Thanks again and keep 'em coming!!!

Like your 2nd one, too, Julie! Thanks! I'm happy to see these crafts using the claypots! I'm afraid if they are just left in the supply room that they will get broken and we can't use them. Right now they are just in a big box. I may just bring some home with me and see what I can put together for the bazaar.

I forgot to mention that there are the claypot drainer bowls, too. Crafts for them would be appreciated, too.
Keep your eye out for more sites for me! Thanks!

Patty

Depending on size....They can be used as
tipsy pots,
to decorate a wreath,
candle holders
turned upside down, decorate and add a large bead donger to make a bell,
of course you can plant in them,
use instead of a gift basket filled with seeds, garden tools, gloves etc
'pot up' with a soft sculpture flower or cactus to use as a pin cushion.

Good luck. BTW what time of year is the sale?

Thank you, too, Bernadette! I'll start checking out the sites you posted, too.
Our bazaar is always the Saturday before Thanksgiving in November. It's Fall here in the US.
Thanksgiving, Fall, tree ornaments and Christmas items always sell really well.
We made some Indian corn lapel pins last year right before the bazaar and nearly every one of them sold. It was a Fall item.
I made some Fall aprons many years ago and they were gone in a flash. They were just the printed cut out panels that you add bias tape to the upper edge, side ties for the back and hem it.
Thank you again for the sites!
Patty

[> Re: HELP!!! Need All The Ribbon and Claypot Crafts/Sites You Know Of!!! -- Carol P, 20:42:54 06/12/09 Fri [1]

This is Miss Potts who sits on my patio in the summer. She could be made from much small pots to sit on a window sill.

Miss Potts

Her jumper is painted on. Her polka dots are decorative buttons with the shanks cut off. Her face was printed from the internet and decoupaged onto her head (I'm not a good painter). Her arms and legs are braided nylon cord. Her hair adornment is a wooden butterfly fastened to a spring made from wrapping wire around a pencil. Her hair is some kind of sedum that lives over winter in my patio flower boxes. It is planted in a plastic pot that sits on the patio all year while herself spends the winter in the cellar. Had to find her a new chair this year since the old wooden chairs that I spray paint for her only last about 2 years. A plastic flower pot snowman takes her place in the winter.

Thank you again, Bernadette, for the ribbon crafts! I haven't gotten to check out those sites yet, but I will.

Thanks, Carol, for showing us Miss Potts! She is so cute!

Hi, Darlene! Do you mean something like this? Look who posted it here on CEF. LOL!!! http://www.voy.com/54161/9/30470.html

That was our 2nd class this year. They have been priced and are patiently waiting in storage at the church for the bazaar in Nov. I think we made 12 ornaments and 12 shelf sitters. Everyone loved that class. They turned out so cute, too! Thanks for the reminder, though. Someone else might have missed it originally and would like to see it, too.

Thanks again, Ladies!
Patty

Hi Patty,
Yes that is the one! I loved those!
One year for gifts I used two longer pine cones in a v shape hot glue together, put moss on top little red bird, little christmas greenery, added a few red berrirs, decorative snow on cones .
How about a pot turned upside down, with the saucer glued on top, then fill with moss and add bird etc. as I mentioned above.
maybe different birds~~ not just christmas
Fall: small pumpkins, fall leaves etc. in top

That's OK, Linda! Every site helps! I've gotten LOTS of good ideas.

I've been thinking about it and I think what I'm going to do about all the claypots is make up some samples from some of these sites and take them to church on craft class night. Then, get out the box of claypots/bowls, paint, ribbon, flowers, etc. and tell them to make anything or decorate anyway they want to with them. Just a free-for-all!!! LOL I'll also try to get them to make or decorate several, if I can.

Our next class is next week on Tues night, the 23rd. I already have something planned for that night, but if I can get the samples of the claypots made to show that night, maybe they can be thinking what they'd like to do for the next class and we can do them then, which will be the 2nd Tues in July.

What do you all think?
Patty
