Hi Carol,
How is the Farmers Market doing this year? How many days a week do you have it? Can crafts be included with the veg.'s? Do you see a difference with the economy, a local one here has done real well but out of state produce right now.
Been cooking anything good?
Have a good week! Blazer (Darlene P.)

Hi, Darlene,
We're having a slow start with our Market this year. We have changed time and place and people are finding it difficult to make the switch. We have had an awful lot of rain, too. We have it once a week on Wednesdays from 3 to 6 p.m.
The only crafts that could be included are things made from the vendor's property like grapevine wreaths, corn husk dolls, etc. We have a vendor now who carves intricate designs in eggshells. I'm afraid they won't be around long though because our buyers are looking for local, fresh food at a good price and don't have the disposable income to buy fancy eggshells. They would rather go for the ones with the insides still in them!
All of our produce has to come from within 50 miles of the Market so there isn't a lot in season yet. We have a lot of onions, lettuce, garden plants and one local man grows hydroponic tomatoes. He always has a line waiting for the opening bell and he sold out last week. His tomatoes are the best thing you can get until there are tomatoes in the garden.
We also have a pork vendor, one who sells goat meat, a baked goods stand and a hot dog vendor.
This week's Market is special - we'll have giveaways and entertainment for kids. We're expecting sunshine and should have our best turnout so far.
Tried something new for our Father's Day picnic today and won't bother again. It was a chicken wings recipe that called for a very complicated sauce that contained a cut-up orange, grated ginger, honey, thyme, cayenne pepper and some other things in tomato juice. Had to cook that for an hour, bake the wings, then broil them. Was very disappointed. With all those ingredients I was expecting something special but they were pretty bland. Next time I'll just do Buffalo wings and have something tasty and easier to do.
Nice to hear from you. Still have something to put in the mail as soon as I find some time!!!

Carol
