Subject: Last minute panic

As usual I have my ideas at the last minute. We are having the family over for lunch/party next weekend. Using elephants as the central theme.

Any ideas of things I can do for decorations, favours?

So far I have
- elephant herd for the middle of the tables
- rubber stamped serviettes.
- towel elephant(bathroom)
- elephant comparison list
.....great memory, large feet, huge nose, very big ears,
enormous behind, slow and steady, patient, grey,wrinkles......any more?

Possibles....
mint books, post it notes, list pad, calling cards,
bookmarks, magnets, elephant foot cream.

Games?????
something to do with a trunk (thats all I can think off)

Songs.....baby elephant walk......nursery rhymes...???

I am sure to have lots of ideas after the event but in the
mean time as you can see I need help.

Bernadette

You could play a Memory Game of some sort! Elephants never forget! :)

We used to play a game with objects on a tray. We had so long to look at the items and then it was covered...people had to list the things on the tray.

I know these are geared for children, but maybe you could adapt them:

Baked Elephant Ears
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time! Start with this snack that's shaped like an elephant ear.
You will need: 1 stick of pie crust mix, Medium mixing bowl, Measuring spoons Hot water, Fork, Wood board, All-purpose flour, Baking sheet, 2 tablespoons sugar. 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon, Shaker or spoon
1. Have adult break pie crust into little pieces in the bowl. Add 3 tablespoons of hot water. Mix with fork till the dough sticks together.
2. Sprinkle the wood board with flour. Pat your hands with flour. Form the dough into a big ball on the board and divide into 4 parts. Form each part into a ball. To make elephant ears, use your whole hand to flatten each ball. Press hard so that the dough gets thinner. It should be about 1/4 inch thick.
3. Place each piece of dough onto an ungreased baking sheet. Mix sugar and cinnamon. Place in shaker. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar topping on your elephant ears. Be careful not to get the sugar on the baking sheet. Have adult bake at 350º for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Cool.

Elephant Heads
Needs: can biscuits (each child needs two biscuits) - cinnamon sugar - 2 raisins - a craft stick and the foil or baking paper same as above.
Give each child two biscuits. Have them place one biscuit and flatten just a little. Next with craft stick have them cut other biscuit into 3 pieces with the middle piece being narrow (this is the trunk) the 2 outside pieces are the ears.
Add to the biscuit - the 2 ears and put trunk in the middle. (Have them press the edges down so they stick to the biscuit . Add raisin for eyes. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Bake until golden brown. The children love to eat them while still warm.

Movie basket with pop, popcorn, small boxes of candy, etc, and "Dumbo" DVD? Maybe instead of a basket, you could find a small "trunk" to put it in.

A friend of mine used to collect elephant things. She told me that you should always get elephants with their trunks up. It means "good luck". I don't know if that's true, but that's what she said.

I thought of this joke recipe that was in our church's cookbook a long time ago. Maybe you could make everyone a fun recipe card to take home.
Make some kind of real stew and call it "Elephant Stew".

Elephant Stew

1 elephant
brown gravy
2 rabbits(optional)
salt and pepper

Cut elephant into bite-sized pieces. This should take 2 months. Cook over kerosene fire about 4 weeks at 405*. This will serve about 3,800 people. If more guests are expected, 2 rabbits may be added. Do this only if necessary, as most people do not like to find a hare in their stew!

Hope this helps! I'll keep thinking.

Oops! Sorry, Julie! I see you already posted that site for the elephant bath towel.
I had the instructions saved to a document, but didn't have the site saved on it. I had to re-find it and then added it to the document, then I posted it. I guess great minds think alike, huh? I love that little pink elephant. It's so cute!
