Subject: Joann & CEF gals: plastic bottle yarn holder

Instead of crocheting onto the bottle, I made a fabric sleeve that was about 5" x the circumference + 1/2". Sewed the fabric into a tube, turned it so it was inside out & slipped it over the cut end of the bottle, even with the edge. I had punched holes eariler: 1/4" from edge & 3/8" apart with an 1/8" punch. Then I sewed the sleeve onto the bottle with an in-&-out stitch. Pulled the sleeve up & over the edge, so the right was now out. Made a 3/4" casing & used a shoe lace as the draw string. It was very fast & easy to do. I hope this is understandable. My camera is on the fritz, sorry. (((hugs)))

That may just be a good idea also.

Hi Jazz~

That is another good idea and a lot faster to do than crocheting all those rows.

Your directions are easy to understand and I think I'll have to get in my "material stash" and see what I have and I really want to try this too!

Of course...I'll need to drink another bottle of soda!

Thanks so much for thinking of me and the CEF Girls...

Hugs~ Joann

P.S.: I'm off to Walmart in a few minutes..looking for different size plastic bottle for the Peaches & Cream Yarn. A fun adventure!

Hi Jazz~

No luck on finding a smaller bottle that would fit the Peaches & Cream Yarn. I'm going to just cut the 2 Liter Soda Bottle to a smaller size for this yarn..I think it will work just fine... as this yarn will need room to spin around to unwind.

I would also like to try to make it with the fabric...Jazz I really do like your idea on this project.

Thanks Again~ Joann

Hi SueZQ~

Thanks so much...I'll get the 46 oz. V-8 juice this week at the supermarket. Last night the only V-8 Walmart had was the small 6-pack cans package.

Thanks again..as I was in every aisle that had plastic bottles last night and came up empty handed. (Although I did get another Peaches & Cream Yarn..took it with me to the "Bottle Hunt..LOL! and then bought.)

Hugs~ Joann

You guys are all nuts. Isn't that what they say about crafters? I understand the sewing one and could do that for sure. I just have to drink the soda and I don't drink pop but I bought diet root beer. That kind is pretty good. Joann what do you make with the cotton yarn? I have a couple of big kinda cone shaped ones. They were marked down one time and thought maybe it would come in handy some time. Just curious. Thanks Jazz for your idea and Joann for starting this all off.

Hi Linda~

Glad I got everyone involved with the project.LOL!

I also don't drink soda... funny years ago my husband worked for Pepsi-Cola and came home every week with 2 cases..we always gave away .. we are spoiled with my "Homemade Iced Tea and a piece of Lemon in the glass." I brew it all winter too.

I also bought another 2 Liter Soda and will take tomorrow to my 2 Grandsons (I know they'll polish it off in record time.) LOL!" I need another empty bottle and want to try Jazz's pattern with the material. Hopefully by the time dinner is over tomorrow, I'll be coming home with the "empty bottle!"

Now as for the "Cotton Yarn" this is what I'm working on now for my daughter: "Mop Pad Refill for Swiffer Wet Jet"

I came across this and thought it was a good idea and she has plenty of Hardwood Floors throughout her house and keeps them spotless and shiny. When I was over last Sunday she had it out and said how handy it is for her to use and then mentioned how expensive the refill pads were. So, when I stumbled upon this a few days ago, I knew it was going to be my next crochet project.

Here's the link:

I also used this cotton yarn for the Kitchen Scrubbies and Kitchen Jar Openers. I can't think of what else I used it on at the moment.

Well that's it for now...Hugs~ Joann

Great Idea with the Swiffer things. I don't have one but if I did I would have to make some. Just to cheap to keep buying new ones. I know she will like them for sure.

Hi Linda~

I'm just about finished with the Swiffer Mop Pad just need to add the crocheted chain on the two top sides for it to hold onto the Swiffer. It turned out really nice and hopefully it will work good and Sherry will appreciate it I'm sure.

I did come home with the empty soda bottle..the grandson's made quick work of that. So my next project is going to make another yarn holder with Jazz's directions of using the material. I'm really wanting to do that and think the peaches & cream yarn will work if I cut the end of the bottle a little higher up...I will try it in the bottle I already made to make sure. I should be finished with the scarf by tomorrow and then can take out the leftover yarn..right now I can't remove the yarn until I do the last few rows on the scarf.

I'm just like you..if I can save money .. I'm all for it! I guess that old saying "I can pinch a penny and make it cry" is what I do when I can.

Take Care & Hugs~ Joann
