I might be an out-of-town idiot but I believe that I connected the dots on this yesterday (even a monkey at a typewriter can occasionally produce Shakespeare).

Yesterday when I mentioned that I believe McCaffery is experimenting a lot with these non-conference games and puts all his chips on the conference games. I was basing this on comments he apparently made downplaying the importance of the UAlbany game and highlighting the upcoming December conference games.

It makes a lot of sense when you read player comments last year about playing under McCaffery, he wants to empower them. I think it's a bit extreme but now you're seeing just how serious he is about that. He literally let the guys sink or swim yesterday. There are fathers that teach their kids to swim in deep water this way - throw them in and let them struggle. Apparently McCaffery didn't view potentially losing the Buffalo game as a bigger concern than failing to let the players solve their own problem.

I also suspect had this game been against Marist he would have called time outs.

I guess end conclusion is, he has the keys so he can drive. I still like it a hell of a lot more than anything I ever saw under Lanier.

I was not saying that I thought it was a good idea. I was just trying to connect the dots on why he might have taken the approach he did.
