another hatseed comment, regarding Fran staunch stand on academics -

"While I don't know all the details of the Lopez situation (only going on what I read on ESPN.com), there are two possibilities in regards to Trent Johnson's awareness: 1) He knew of Lopez's struggles academically and didn't do enough to help him, or 2) He did not know about Brook's struggles. Either way, a coach needs to monitor his player's academics, so he is partially responsible.

On the other hand, kudos to Fran for pulling the plug on Edwin early on so that he could get his grades in order before the situation reached the NCAA-level."

In reality Stanford has true academics and no where to hide limited students.

On the other hand what courses is EU taking?

Proof of .500 Fran's academic interest lies in one of the stars on his first Siena team - did Fran sit him out or push him to improve academically?

NO!!!! He used him to win a few games and two years later the player is still more than a semester away from graduating.

He too - I guess was academically eligible by NCAA standards. This student had 4 years and 4 summers at SIENA and still was light years away from graduating but Fran and Siena saw fit to keep him on the court.
