Subject: Children of Polio survivors

My mother had polio 50 years ago. She now suffers from post-polio syndrome...it has been hard on the entire family to say the least.

I need to ask a somewhat selfish question. Could the disease have affected victims' DNA? Meaning, could any of the nerve damage caused by polio be passed along to the children of survivors?

I'm by no means a scientist, so please forgive me if the question above is a silly one. I worry about it because my brother, sister and I have always been a bit sluggish and needed more rest than most - characteristics I have always seen in my mom that can be attributed to post-polio syndrome.

Please respond if you have any ideas or feedback. You can email me at andrea@wedewer.com if you'd like.

Thank you,
Andrea
