I got a couple comments;
Managmenment needs to be allowed to reign in abusers of sick time: i.e. on the job for 5 years and OUT SICK for TWO of the FIVE-in any business!!! I think that just might warrant investigating and asking for further info when someone, in that situation, calls in sick. In support of my comment...the article actually states that if it is suspected that sick time is being abused then they can ask for back up when someone calls in. I don't know ANY job ANYWHERE that would allow someone to be "out sick" for 40% of the time someone was employed without providing a REASON for that, would anybody? (Disabilities set aside)
Also, Senior Officers should run the department, eh?! I assume you mean that folks woith seniority should run the department...unfortunatley I don't really believe that "time in" provides anyone with managment skills, by ANY MEANS. This is not a blanket statement in support of current administration just a reaction to a comment that I disagree with. Does it really make sense to make somoene a "boss" or a "chief" because they have had a lot of time on the force or on a job? Take a look at some of the employees in that department that have been on the job for some of the longest tenures; i.e. a 4F'er out of the Navy...NOW there is an IDEAL candidate, right??! C'mon let's think a little before we speak, just a little.
