Subject: wood stove

My dilemma:
my house uses electric heat and it costs a ton. it once had a wood stove so the chimney is there and i have access to cheap wood. obvious answer is get a wood stove... but the chimney is in the area where the squirrel most likes to play 2 stories tall there as the bed room looks over the living room. Perfect place for a wood stove because 22 feet of single wall stove pipe can radiate a lot of heat. In the summer it will be a great new thin on which to climb and cause trouble. But i fear little pancake landing on the stove and pipe when it is hot. I was surprised how quick he learned not to run near a central heater that we had in our old apartment. But this is a little different.

-does anyone have a wood stove and how do you manage the two together? or is goofus smarter than i realize?

-what could be made to prevent the squirrel from getting burned but still allowing full heating? placing the stove in a cage might look a little tacky (and be pricey).

Thanks,
Pete
