I once observed a wild flyer on my property glide to a telephone pole (during the day), and run down the pole and disappear without hesitation into a low dry-stacked stone wall that is part of my rock garden, he was in full-blown chipmunk mode. I know it's not unusual for flyers to be on the ground, it's just unusual for me to actually see it. Interesting about them not crossing a road.
