I just paid a return visit to the Forum and decided to help answer some questions that were raised regarding the flying squirrels' aversion to road-crossing and, in general, avoiding situations where it is "in the open" and away from the the relative safety of the forest or treed areas with over and under-story vegetative growth.

Gliding poles were erected by North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) to facilitate crossing a two-laner.
