It varies greatly and I'm not sure why. In the wild it
is about two years. In captivity it can be ten years to
seventeen years. I had a few that Agnes pick up from me
over four years ago and they are still going good. They
were thirteen years old when she got them. From what I
saw a while back on the NFSA boards it seemed there were
quite a few that were passing on in their seventh year.
With out knowing their complete history and diet there
is no way to know why.
All you can do is give them a good varied diet with
nothing, including vitamins or calcium, in excess.
