I haven't shipped any flyers for probably five+ years.
Even when I did, in a lot of cases it was cheaper for
the person to drive here than to pay for an airline
approved carrier, health papers, and shipping. Shipping
with related expenses was more than the baby squirrel.
I got nothing extra for driving to the vet or to the
airport to ship.
Back then I was 40 miles from the airport. Now with
only Continental shipping animals, I'd have to drive
out of state a minimum of 2 hours to ship. Continental
only has shuttle service in Ohio and they do not take
animals on shuttle flights.
I have people say, "Yes we definately want one, or want
a pair." Then they as for driving directions and then
they disappear, never to be heard from again. If driving
and gasoline costs ARE the problem, why can't people
e-mail me and say, we just can't get one right now.
In many cases I have told others that I had none available
thinking the babies were sold when they were not.
As I said before, last summer not one person of thirty on
a waiting list bought a squirrel, only two of thirty did
let me know they could not get one. This is why I am
selling most of my breeding stock this fall. It is getting
to be such a hassle getting babies placed that it isn't fun anymore.
