Lisa,
You are right, there is no "magic cure". But permit me to share a little story with you...
I am a teacher with a special education background. I was hired to home school a student who had some real learning issues. He excelled in reading comprehension so when he began to really struggle in math, I just couldn’t understand it. He also was never able to learn to write in cursive and putting thoughts into words was difficult for him. I started searching for help and discovered the Davis methods.
The main component of Davis is giving a person a way to focus. After giving K. a way to focus, (forgive me,) it was like magic! He was finally able to put his math on paper and keep the numbers lined up the way they were supposed to be. He was never able to keep his numbering outside the red margin until given a way to focus…I’m telling you truthfully, it was incredible!
I decided to get my certification in the Davis methods because of the results I saw. My main goal is to educate people about why people struggle with learning and how they don’t have to any more, regardless if they do a program with me.
I just want you to know that your son doesn’t have to struggle either. Your son can be helped in every area you mention in a Davis program. You can buy the book “The Gift of Dyslexia” and work with your son yourself, if he is motivated.
A great source of information to learn more about how your son learns is http://www.gifteddevelopment.com
