Stefani,
One of things that may be happening here is what I call the "White Wall Effect." When I am under a lot of pressure and stress, I suddenly have a total blank in my mind, a white wall. This can happen when I am in the middle of a sentence.
Example: My son was in the hospital and had just been moved from ICU to a semiprivate room. His father and I were talking to the doctor and I was explaining my son’s personality and how he handles life.
All of a sudden I hit that “white wall.” Nothing was there. Blank. I turned to my ex-husband and asked “Do you know where I was going with this?” He replied “No.”
The stress of having my son so ill and seeing his father after 30 years suddenly hit me and I blanked.
Your boyfriend may have the same thing happening to him. With you helping him study and the review with the teacher were not stressful situations, but when he took the test, too much pressure to perform.
Too much input can stress a dyslexic. Something like brain overload.
What can you do to help? That is a big question with many different answers. One thing which may help with his speech could be to try to slow down when he speaks. I have noticed I have the most problems when I talk too fast. (lifter weights?) I am a customer service representative and have noticed some young people speak incredibly fast.
Not much, but I hope it helps.
