Hi all,

We recently bought a lifting keel Sailer 23 and have her out of the water at the minute and I was hoping for some general advice.

Apart from the obvious antifouling job, the other problem that we are trying to address is that we noticed very slight drips of water coming in through transom from the lower rudder pintle bolt holes. Out the water we can see that the seal around the pintle is worn. Our plan is to remove the bolted fitting and replace the seal with suitable epoxy/waterproofing. Any advice from someone who has done this job would be appreciated.

On a wider issue, I think that this weakening has been caused because there is some play in the rudder. This is being caused because the hole in this lower pintle (which the metal rudder post goes through) seems to have widened - which means the rudder 'thunks' around. Am I worrying about nothing or should I be looking to get a replacement lower pintle / bracket? Any advice would be appreciated.

The other question I had was about scarificial anodes. The one we have under the hull (connected to the prop shaft) seems to have been doing its job and needs to be replaced. I was wondering, though, whether there should be some sort of anode on the keel?
