Hi Ian.

Thanks for the responce. I thought that the brass cap was a grease cap which you would turn down to add preasure but the thread that it goes on is the same height as the cap (around 20 mm) so I am forced to conclude that is simply a cap acting as a stopper. I have heard from the previous owner that he would squeeze a load of grease down the hole from time to time. Having looked into the hole with a tourch it seems to just be a watery void with some grease evident from what I can see. I do have a photo of the assembly and could e-mail it if it helps. As I have said I do not have any problems at the moment and want to avoid any in the future, so any advice is welcome.
