Not really , I have used the broad locks for years without problems, but beware of narrowboats trying to share a lock with you alongside!!.I usually try to have a lock to myself saves a lot of "plenty of room for us" types!!

I can reccomend the River Wey Navigations a lovely river which has canalised sections, but do check you cabin top height above waterline as there are several low bridges to negotiate and,Oh yes and very stiff paddlegear to prevent hireboat users from getting into trouble letting the paddles drop unhindered, but well worth a visit if you can get there.The river starts from Weybridge off the Thames below Shepperton lock.
