I too am on a drying mooring (mud), but yet again small stones have got wedged into the keel slot and preventing the keel from coming down more than a few inches. As my mooring is in Essex, not very far from Great Dunmow, I suspect their is something wrong. The drop keel on my SM23 is made from bronze and is an inch in from the base of the keel when wound fully up (when looking up from outside). Also the drop keel is slightly shorter in length than the slot, I assume to give clearance for the drop keel to pivot. I would be interested to find out if anyone has the original drop keel and how the drop keel fits in the keel slot. Is their a bulge on the leading edge of the drop keel that seals off the keel slot when the drop keel is fully up?
