Your MPU Ram battery needs to be replaced. IT is a 1/2 AA Lithium Battery, axial leads, available many times on Ebay or any good electronics stores such as Fry's, etc. You can go on line to Frys.com and order one there- about $8. Or any other slot supplier or electronics store. Happcontrols.com also has them. You need to desolder the battery from the board or much easier, clip the leads near the battery itself. that way, you can solder the new one on directly to those leads, without risking desoldering the board connector itself, causing risk of heat damage if you are not a professional solderer; The 5500 has a multi-layer board, so if you get it too hot, you will ruin the board. Much easier to clip and solder onto the existing leads. Make sure you have the battery in the right direction, positive and negative in the correct direction. Once soldered (the battery should read 3.6 v) you need to reinstall the MPU and conduct a ram clear procedure. hopefully, you have the model where you do not need a ram clear chip. Move the ram clear jumper to the enable position, insert the MPU and power up; follow the Complete Saferam Procedures, then remove the Board and reposition the jumper at J10. Reinsert and set game options and you should be back in business for another 8-1o years. It really is easy to do, but if you do not have the correct mains you will need a ram clear chip for the 5500, easily available from slot some dealers all over the web- Eproms U12 * U13. You should have at least a Bally 5500 Install Manual which will walk you through the Saferam Procedures and Game setting options- it is all done on the buttons...if you don't, I would buy one (many times on Ebay) or I could get you one together or send you scans of the procedures but quicker, I think, though on Ebay, there is a 5500 cheat book that has all these procedures in it- it also covers other Bally Machines and it fairly cheap. Good louck, the entire procedure should take you perhaps 30 minutes with the proper info;
