Subject: Fantastic questions, mkim. I will join with my answers and the discussion, hopefully, but I'm 'in transit' and may not be able to get online for a few days. But, when I do, I HOPE the vivid discussion is still going!!!! LOL

To me, the first 'grand gesture' resigning from RAN, was a manipulation. Mic KNEW that Mac was unsure (hence, she didn't say yes immediately and/or put the ring on her left hand), so he got pushy and interested only in his own needs and ego and agenda. If he wanted to be with Mac (on the same continent -- I could understand that), why didn't he just arrange an extended vacation or some sort of leave. I don't know a dingle about the RAN, but, surely, he could've done something less aggressive to sort out some feelings between him and Mac. As it happened, Mac had to start off the whole relationship with Mic from a negative vibe -- guilt, insecurity, hesitancy, feeling bamboozled, etc. For the second grand gesture, resigning his law firm position, I felt he was genuine and sincere as he was so conflicted and erred on the side of his friends, BUT, he also KNEW he would win brownie points with Mac and add to her feelings of obligation to him

2. I think the writers returned to the Russian story because it lent itself to a plausible, interesting twist in the relationships storylines of JAG, but also from the military and CIA standpoint, as anything alluding to Russia almost always brings in political, military, jets, and submarine themes as well as spies and intrigue. All good fodder for enquiring JAG minds.

I realize it really was a whole new ballgame, no one knows that better than I do, but what I thought was missing was a lightness in their comraderie that 'we' the fans needed in that dark time. Dont know if I explained that well. (shrug)
