Subject: I'll give it a 5. Love the interaction with Harm and Bud--and the introduction of Clark Palmer. And I loved the tension that was created by Mac 'leaving' to go into civilian practice. We got to see Harm's reaction to that-- and anything that gave us a glimpse into their personal feelings for each other --was yippe kiyoooh time for me. And it made it a lot more dramatic when Mac comes back to defend Harm in People vs Rabb. I think the remark about nice to see a pretty face was a clear sign that it wasn't going to work out. Dalton was okay-- I never hated him-- but he was no Harm..lol

2) While Mac's back story wasn't used that much as an excuse or reason for her behaviour, Mac did have a back story. She went from being an abused and abandoned child, to an alcohol dependent young woman who married the wrong man. Essentially, she came from the other side of the tracks.

Then she went into the Marines, and from there, into law and JAG. For her, the outside world of private law with a prestigious firm, would have been a great lure. For the first time in her life, she would be totally independent with a great salary and status in the corporate world. Along with that came a good looking boyfriend, and admiration...no matter how sexist, from the senior partner. I believe she was willing to overlook the statement, being so new and inexperienced outside of the military.

Of course, she soon realised that she was not satisfied with being a junior partner with all the dog work, and naturally, she missed her life at JAG, working alongside the best partner anyone could hope for, (loosely paraphrasing Mac's words.)

4) When an adult makes a life-changing decision that they've given great thought to, friends and associates have to bite their tongues. If Mac had been feeble minded and was about to be taken for a ride by some charlatan, then yes, others should step in. But Mac was capable of making her own choices. The short answer then, is no, neither AJ nor Harm should have presumed to stop her for making this life choice.

5) Oh sigh....that goodbye almost rivaled Goodbyes! I think it's pretty clear Mac was not talking about the relative merits of a car and a tomcat. She was talking indirectly about Dalton and Harm. Was she in love with Harm? Probably even she didn't know that. Do we know when we start falling in love? Not always. Sometimes we wake up and just know that we're falling for someone. But the love doesn't come from nowhere. It has to build--to infiltrate our minds and hearts often surreptitiously. Then it hits us like the arrow of Eros (or Cupid.)

Was Harm in love with Mac? Same thing as above. But whether or not either of them thought of themselves as "in love," they knew for sure that they were best friends and trusted partners. What they had was profound, and so moving apart affected them both profoundly. I believe Harm was feeling loss, sadness, regret, and jealousy...or more like the horrible feeling of being cut out of the life of someone we love. Mac's own regret and sadness would be tempered with a cross between excitement and fear of the unknown.
