Subject: We need a new board mom.

As the oldies no doubt know, judi, aka RDOL, used to run the HB pertal, I was her second banana, and the Chief was also a moderator. In fact, we still are moderators, though mostly inactive. Judi gave the board over to Araninda, who ran it very well for a few years. I don't know what happened, but maybe she just got tired.

I still "look after" the HBX if needed and virtually all of the collages, and HBX web sites are running off my server at my expense. I'm having problems with spam with one of the sites, but have had little time to deal with it.

I do not like deserting the HB, and actually loved coming in as a poster, and not a moderator. We loved the boards, but we used to spend hours setting up the other boards, doing collages, settling fights, and fixing problems that occurred from time to time.

On Novemeber 17th, 2001, a group of us from Maeve's JAGnik central, who called ourselves the Blue Angels, set up the HB (just one board), not having any idea of how successful it was to become. Yes we did have a lot of fun, and discussions too, as well as some heated contentious issues. Many of us met at the Fanfests in LA, but they ended in 2005, when JAG ended.

As it stands, I do not have DVDs of JAG, just every episode on VHS, so with it not running here in Canada, the interest just fell by the wayside.

But the HB was firstly, a community, and it is the people I miss. Yes, many of us are on Facebook, but in my opinion, the format of FB is extremely annoying and inefficient. I loved this format, where you could have a good argument all under one thread, and look things up in 10 pages of archives. It's so easy to miss stuff on FB. I can't always find something I've just posted. I only use it now for relatives and close friends, and I have made the decision not to read or respond to any contentious, negative, political or religious, opinion. I have a very negative view of social media, and believe it is a place for global bullies who don't care if they destroy the lives of strangers.

I haven't been to the HB in the past few weeks, in part because I've been away with not much internet, and in part because I've been too busy.

I don't like to see it fade away, and would rather see it close down than be a ghost town. However, if there is still enough interest in any of the boards, we do need a new board Mom, and some helpers who can properly moderate. I promise I will stick around, and will try to become more active. I just don't want to be the go to person, because I can no longer give that commitment. I will be willing to turn over the "keys" so to speak, so that the new moderators know how to fix problems, or even tweak the format if they and the posters want. The mods should be able to delete spam, and fix errors, and delete or add boards. For that they need the password and a knowledge of basic html.

The Chief (Heather) was the second or third Blue Angel, and is still around. Perhaps she has some ideas about the board, and she certainly should be consulted about a new moderator. I see that usmgrad is very active and would make a great board mom. But there are others who might want to help, so I'm hoping that someone will come forward.

As for the HBX, I may have to take the challenge boards down, but I will not do so without plenty of warning, so that posters can copy stories. I know longer have the originals on my hard drive, as that one crashed a couple of years ago.

So let's give it a few weeks to make any permanent decision. If you know posters who would like to come back, let them know. So we need your input. Also, if you want to email me, please feel free to do so.

I'm sorry that this is so long.

[> Well, I'll break the silence, he he! I know I can't be a board Mom with all my work and travel committments, but I do love chiming in. As much as I dearly miss all the long and rich posts that used to happen here as well as the birthday wishes (inside) -- mj, 06:13:52 05/23/15 Sat

which, in this day and age, was so special -- I see how the fast and furious postings are no longer necessary with JAG now in, what?, 5 levels of re-runs and syndications and on odd channels and other obscure places? Also, with HAE not even in other productions of any merit and no possibility of a JAG re-union in sight, it's almost bittersweet to keep on looking back at the 'Harm' glory days -- for me, anyway. But, I also don't like Facebook for communications like this as it gets so confusing and convoluted to keep track, to follow timelines of posts, let alone the nasty trolling that goes on, in a much more public manner than these boards have ever seen! Plus, I do alot of professional posting on FB and Twitter and no one needs to know what I do in my personal time. Anyhow, I'm actually fine with having the board continue, as is, with the occasional fun posts and trips down memory lane and keeping Harm 'alive'. If you need any financial assistance with keeping the board active. I'm more than happy to chip in for that. I wish I was at a point when I could take something like this on, but I know it would be a disaster for me. I'm also not too techy savvy in anything here -- ironically only with statistics software and things to do with the professional newsletters I write for (editors basically spoonfeed me what I need to do. So, that's me, for now! :)

[> [> I LOVE that Tennyson quote! :) It reminds me of something my DH often says whenever I wax on and on about past glory days. He says "All good things eventually come to an end." Is he a curmudgeon or what?! But I shall share that quote with him so that he feels a kindred spirit in one of our poetic bests. ;) -- mj, 03:50:10 05/25/15 Mon

[> I still swing by regularly, once or twice a day, on my way to the Hunk of the Month voting page, and I'll sometimes add a comment. I've met wonderful people here and that is what makes me pause on the way by. JAG was a wonderful, exciting, uplifting, enlightening part of my life since midway through season 7, but...it's really in the past now. (Inside) -- Deemus, 09:42:21 05/24/15 Sun

At one time, I would have loved a reunion or continuation of some sort, but it really feels like it's past when that would make sense, or connect in any meaningful way.

I don't have the tech know-how to do any board moderating, sorry. I'm one of those people dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century....

I am on Facebook, but I wouldn't care for having this board there. It's just too busy a place, and things would get lost too easily.

I am amazed that there are still a few of us stopping by, checking in, leaving comments so long after the show went off the air. Ten years! It's astonishing, and a clear indication of how, and how strongly, it touched so many people.

I have come to the sad realization (as have you others, I am sure) that we are on our last legs here. It's bittersweet, but..."The old order changeth, yielding place to new, and God fulfills himself in many ways, lest one good custom should corrupt the world." (Tennyson, from Idylls of the King."

[> I'm here almost every day to see what's new. Usually it's in the morning before work and I just don't have time to post. Inside -- JJ Ronda, 11:29:27 05/25/15 Mon

I would hate to see it go away, even though there is very little activity these days. Just can't give it up yet, even though I haven't watched my JAG DVDs in a few years.

I have absolutely no knowledge of HTML, other than what it is by definition, and sadly don't have time to be a board mom. For the past several months have been struggling to keep up with things. I'm behind reading Facebook. I have stacks of newspapers, magazines, and cut-out articles I want to read. I have a Word document where I've been pasting links to online articles I want to read--at last count there were 175 links on there! I don't get enough sleep and my house is in desperate need of some serious cleaning. Can I get a witness? LOL I need at least a month long sabbatical to get caught up!

Back to the topic at hand. I will try to post more often, even if it is just a sentence to show I'm still there. lol I sure would miss this place if it were to go away.

[> I would be heartbroken to see the HB go under. Even though I rarely post, I check in regularly, and feel the heartbeat of our long established community. I agree that FB is a different kind of animal altogether. Please someone with the requisite skills step forward and help keep this community alive! -- Sunny, 02:07:03 05/26/15 Tue

The HarmyBoard has been an anchor through many a rough sea over the years. We are a community. Please let's keep the board going.

[> I just want to reiterate. I have no intention of closing down the HB, unless I'm the last woman standing. There is very little work to do, as all the boards are set up, and voy is pretty stable. If someone sees spam than needs deleting, just contact me and I'll delete it. I just can't promise to be around all the time. (inside) -- Cece, 21:02:53 05/27/15 Wed

I'm a really nostalgic person, and the HB was so much a part of my life for so long, I just know you can't go home again, so to speak. I'm glad that many of our Harmy friends are on FB, so at least we are in touch, and I'm glad that we still pop in from time to time.

[> I hope I’m not too late to the “party”. For my two cents (inside) -- usmgrad, 20:50:34 05/28/15 Thu

It’s hard to have a message board when the object of the board is no longer an active part of your life. I would miss this connection if it were to disappear. I try to do my part in giving us something to talk about, sometimes it works and other times it doesn’t. There have been times I thought no one was checking in anymore. I am happy to see there are still a few, both long timers and newbies. I think the board has/is/needs to evolve into something new with Harm as still our center of attention. A few new things, JAG on TV and Throwback Thursday and some old ones like Blue Monday. Perhaps a few games, fill in the blanks, quizzes might keep everyone “talking” and even laughing. However it can’t be just one person doing all the posting. I think that might be what happened to Araninda, it can burn a person out very quickly.

If the board needs a “mom” I can volunteer. Everything I have learned about html I learned here. I don’t know it all; I might not know enough but if Cece and Chief will be only an email away it might be doable.

The message board is just that a place to leave messages, in our case about Harm and JAG. I hope more will participate even if it’s just to mention something they saw or heard that reminded them of JAG or the Navy or Harm. You never know what might get a conversation started and if it’s something about an episode or what use to be all the more fun. So let’s keep “talking” and sharing and maybe have fun along the way. Spread the word the Hot Harm, OFC is better than ever!

[> Glad to see the board will be sticking around (my two cents) -- Alicia, 20:56:34 05/29/15 Fri

This board is as much a part of JAG history as any other facet of JAG. I love going back and reading the archives, and I check when I can.

This board is like a little oasis in the desert of the internet.

I don't post much here because right now I barely have enough time at the moment to post on fb, and work on the site as my life has taken a time crunch turn. Voy is also a challenge unto itself due to its construction. It's a complicated process to post on voy vs the minutes it takes on social media. Plus all the SM platforms play with each other, so post on Tumblr and it feeds to twitter etc..etc..so more reach and interaction with less time and effort. Plus its much easier to post multimedia on other platforms.

SM and forums don't have to be mutually exclusive. SO often I wish there was a share button here, as I know those that follow me/jagniks on other platforms because of JAG content would love some of the posts here. However, there is no easy way to share those either. I wish Voy had the features of other forums, so it could be in the midst vs all by its lonesome--and the first generation of fans and the second could interchange and exchange etc......and all the existing pockets of community would have a bridge to each other--while staying in the medium most comfortable to the individual.

So that's my technical two cents.....

Yet the years of posts here show this was/is more than just a board to many who traveled its pixels...and regardless of traffic and new mediums--it is a tribute to that as much as anything else.

This board has never let me register---but I most likely have the skills. Time is the key--but if you need assistance--and it can be a when I have the time right now kind of thing--I am more than happy to lend a hand.
