Subject: Wednesday's Words of Wisdom

"Words of Wisdom" = quotes from a particular episode. Were they true to the characters, totally off base or did they just promote more 'woulda, coulda, shoulda'?

This weeks "words of wisdom" are from JAG-a-thon. It was one of those episodes where Harm managed to put his foot in his mouth a few times. Four conversations each relating to the other until finally . . .


Sturgis: Do you two always get this personal?
(speaking at the same time) Mac: Yes. Harm: No.
Sturgis: Or is it me?
(speaking at the same time) Mac: No. Harm: Yes.
Sturgis: Look, this is clearly none of my business but don't you think you might want to deal with it?
Mac: Deal with what?
Sturgis: Whatever is going on here.
Mac: What do you think that is?
Sturgis: I'm not sure.
Harm: (to Mac) He doesn't know anything.
Sturgis: Is there something to know? Because when I asked you the last time you wouldn't answer me.
Mac: What are you expecting to hear?
Sturgis: Are you two involved with each other?
Mac: That's what this is about? You think that Harm would cheat on Renee?
Sturgis: I'm talking since he split with-- (he realises she doesn't know about it)
Mac: (to Harm) You split?


Harm: Mac and I are just friends.
Sturgis: I didn't say you weren't.
Harm: I know.
Sturgis: Is there some reason to believe otherwise?
Harm: No.
Sturgis: Because you seem to be suggesting--
Harm: I'm not suggesting anything.
Sturgis: Were you ever a couple?
Harm: No!
Sturgis: Did it come up? (Harm remains silent) Harm, are you involved with her?
Harm: I'm not!
Sturgis: You're sure?
Harm: Look, anyone who's ever been involved with Mac is either dead or feels like they are.
(The elevator door opens and Mac is standing there)


Admiral Chegwidden: I have some concerns about the Colonel. I was wondering if you might have some insights.
Harm: What sort of concerns, sir?
Admiral Chegwidden: Well, she seems upset.
Harm: Today in particular?
Admiral Chegwidden: Yes.
Harm: Well, it might have to do something with me not agreeing to settle on a case.
Admiral Chegwidden: But I'm also getting a sense of hurt--
Harm: Oh, that may also have to do with an indiscreet comment I made, sir.
Admiral Chegwidden: And anger?
Harm: We were discussing the Jagathon, Admiral.
Admiral Chegwidden: You're responsible for this?
Harm: It's one of those days, I guess. I seem to be pushing her buttons, sir.
Admiral Chegwidden: Commander, can you stop doing that?
Harm: I am trying, Admiral.


Mac: So where does that leave us?
Harm: I don't know, Mac. At the end, I guess.
Mac: How about back at the beginning?

Who was correct Harm or Mac? Was it really the end or beginning? How would you have changed the "out come" for the rest of the series?
