The best way to clear this type of problem (which seems common to Gateway notebooks) is to do the following. Remove the battery, memory, and all peripherals from the system. In addition remove the hard drive which is located beneath a peripheral. Let the system stay completely unpowered like this for at least overnight. Reassemble the system and it should boot.
