Asriel thinks for a moment, then says "I may serve them if I decide I like what they need me for, and never for what I believe to be an unjust cause. Also, some, few as they are, but some Aes Sedai have found I don't take kindly to being a target for their powers." As Jorda glares at him, he adds "May I be able to assist you in some way?"

[> [> [> [> [> [> * She looks dead at Asriel hoping that she is not making a big mistake by talking to the wrong person. But he may be able to help. So it is that she starts to speak.* For the last few thousand years there have been only two choices for women with the spark to channel. They can take their chances at a survival rate of four to one, or they can go to the white tower and take courses controlled by Aes Sedai so that eventually they are taught not only to channel but to think a certain way about the world. I'm a wilder. OOC: more inside. -- Bartcher Manus, 18:22:39 12/10/01 Mon (199.60.118.231)

It was made painfully obvious to me though so I don't deny it. My block is fear and my trick is making things blow up. I'm part of a group called the borderland defense allaince. We're tiny but effective. I won't tell you much more and I'm trusting you to keep this secret from all Aes Sedai but Remlar McInes is one of the first women ever to be trained outside of the tower.
You might ask why we exist so I'll ask you this question. How long has it been since the green Ajah actually fought trollocs. Must have been something like a thousand years. I'd bet it hasn't happened since the trolloc wars. We secretly offer our services to borderland armies on the condition of their keeping us anonomous. Over the years we've gained a few more followers.
So now you know something about me. We're down here to see if we can recruit and to see if we can collect information. That's why Remlar was evesdropping on you. We hope you won't turn us over or reveal us to any Aes Sedai you know.
Now if you don't mind, why are you down here?

Asriel gapes in amazement. "I always knew about wilders," he says, "but I didn't know there was an organization of them. Of course I won't hand you over to the Aes Sedai, since we seem to have something in common. I too am "hiding" from Aes Sedai. Tell me, Bartcher Manus, what do you think of men that channel?" At this Jorda mentally screamed at him, again and again. *I only hope,* he thinks, *that this won't lead us to more trouble.*

*Bartcher Manus has a strange secretive smile on her face.* I think not enough effort has been put into the problem of the taint. They tried early on to cure the taint of course but it is my personal beleif that they quit to early. *Her smile grows a bit.* I've got some very odd veiws too. I think that the stone of tear should be opened to every single man who can channel so that they can all go in there and see whether they can hold callandor. I think men that can channel should, at most, be confined to stedding instead of being stilled. But if possible I think that a method should be found by which you can delve a channelling man to figure out how far the taint has progressed within him and then retire him to a stedding before he does go mad. Perhaps then kill him outright when he wishes that. Forget gentling. It's no better than stilling. Better that the red ajah killed men that could channel instead of gentling that. Of course, that's only my opinion. I hope not many people heard that. I wonder. *She starts speaking to herself.* Would the alliance accept a man who channeled. Probably not. My views are quite unique among the organization.
