Regine puts up her own clothing business
DIRECTLINE by Boy Abunda
The Philippine Star 10/29/2004

Regine Velasquez still reigns.

She is an icon of this generation – beautiful, vibrant, with a voice that can tame even the fiercest of warriors. She is revered by her legions of fans – all in awe of her "supernatural" powers that come out magically in every note, in every song she sings.

With her string of platinum albums, blockbuster movies and top-rated TV shows plus hit concerts here and abroad, Regine is inarguably the biggest multi-media personality in the business today.

But the true artist that she is, Regine’s hunger to learn new things never ceases. She continues to reinvent herself. She has dabbled in sketching and painting, with some of her sketches adorning previous albums.

Now, she is exploring another facet of her creativity – her flair for fashion – and is now venturing into the clothing business which she has christened Reigne – her exclusive line of chic and sophisticated clothes for women available exclusively at Sari-Sari Store. "Reigne was the title of one of my albums and it’s just a play on the letters of my name. And since it’s my first clothing line, I just wanted to use a name that’s personal," says Regine.

Reigne is all about sexiness, with sophisticated cuts that offer subtle (or not so subtle) peek-a-boos of flesh. Its initial collection is designed with a particular woman in mind: someone who is not afraid to stand out in a crowd and celebrate her sensuality infused with a playful, distinctly diva attitude.

"Cacai and I always wanted to design clothes and put up a boutique. When we were in elementary and through high school, we used paper dolls to design our own stuff since that was all we could afford," recalls Regine.

Unfortunately, when they entered show business, their fashion exploits were put on hold. "Since we both got into singing professionally, we didn’t have the time to pursue other interests," Regine explains. "But thanks to some friends of Cacai, one thing led to another and the opportunity for us to finally get into the clothing business finally came."

Sari-Sari offered Regine and her sister cum talent manager Cacai Velasquez-Mitra (who already has New Additions, a hip line of maternity wear for women who don’t want to look drab but fab while pregnant) the opportunity to establish their own clothing line at the right time. "I love clothes. It has always been my weakness but sometimes, there are some types of clothes that are hard to find locally. So when Sari-Sari suggested the idea of having my own line of clothes, which I can design myself, I just couldn’t resist. Their enthusiasm and support convinced me that I made the right decision."

As she takes on a new endeavor, Regine continues to redefine who she is as an artist and as a person. What’s next is always exciting for Regine.

Oo nga. Agree ako dyan. Though there are times minsan na out-of-this-world ang mga suot nya. And I guess that shows how daring she is, and willing to experiment and try out new things. Pero most of the time she looks really good in her choices of dresses/gowns. A friend of mine who happens to drive Regine around every once in a while when she's here in LA, told me that Regine shops for her clothes at Melrose and sometimes sa Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.

mmJ:

Regine likes to shop at Rodeo Drive? Isn't that the
place where Julia Roberts was doing her shopping
in the movie "Pretty Woman"?!

lol.. Maybe window shop lang. Even Imelda Marcos
wouldn't go on a shopping spread in that exclusive
place where the rich from Beverly Hills probably
goes.

;-)
