Channel 7 wants Regine to be the Darna for the tv series.
But several writers are pushing for other females. One is
the Sex Bomb dancers lead person in that group..
If she has to do Darna? Regine should push for the movie
version. Forget the tv series. Nah..

Mars Ravelo Darna

Its the stuff Hollywood Legends are made of. After years of searching, for a perfect Darna, the heirs of Mars Ravelo's estate has deemed Asia's Songbird, Miss Regine Velasquez, worthy of taking on the role of our country's foremost superheroine Darna.
In the 1990's fans have been blessed with not one, but two actresses to play the role of the super heroine on the big screen, namely, Miss Nanette Medved and Miss Anjanette Abayari. Both women have several things in common. Both looked stunningly sexy and revealed all the right curves in the Darna's stripper-esque costume. Both women appealed to the public with their mestiza charm being born/raised outside of the Philippines and their foreign twang. Unfortunately, both actresses were also involved in career-breaking scandals. Miss Medved was involved in the Metro Manila Filmfest Scandal while Miss Abayari was caught in an airport in Guam possessing illegal drugs. Both actresses have faded from the limelight since then.
With the fall of these two actresses and the lack luster production of the last two movies, the 50th year anniversary of Darna came and went by without a bang. And yet interest in the Filipina Wonder Woman remained in the public's hearts and minds as shown by the market success of Ballet Philippines presentation of the highly acclaimed Darna Ballet and Mango Comics release of their "not-your-regular-pambalot-ng-tinapa" comicbook miniseries printed in full color on high quality glossy paper.
After much anticipation, the role was finally resurrected on the big screen in 2003 Captain Barbell. Regine Velasquez essayed the role of "Cielo" the love interest of Captain Barbell's Enteng and in a short but memorable cameo, she donned the mantle of Darna in a special dream sequence which was a last minute addition to the movie. Much to the audience's surprise and delight, the songbird's gracefully lithe figure, her flawlessly fair skin, and her luxurious long black hair fit the character very well.
And what a revelation it was! People all over Manila were buzzing over the new Darna! Regine Velasquez is one of the countries most sought after multi-media artists coming up with a series of sold out concerts, multi-platinum albums, million-dollar box-office hit movies, and high-rating TV shows year after year. Her recent venture into the world of acting and making movies has garnered her the title of box-office queen and even a best actress award. There is no question that Regine is our country's brightest superstar today. Fan's are demanding to see a solo movie soon!
Even with all of this qualifications, Regine was never considered for the role of Darna until recently. Regine always projected a virginal and modest "Dalagang-Filipina" image and she has never worn skimpy clothing and she never capitalized on her sexy figure. This public image is the one breaking factor which makes Regine Velasquez the best fit for the role of Darna. There are plenty of voluptuous and innocent looking starlets out there but the thing that makes Regine special is that she can put on the very skimpy Darna outfit and still look regal, command respect and move around with grace and dignity. She is beautiful and sexy but her physical assets does not distract the audience from the role that she is trying to play. It is the same characteristic which made Vilma Santos effective in the Role of Darna.
The movie is still in its planning stages. Nothing is really settled at this point. Keep tuned to this website for updates on the Darna project.
