I THINK SHE IS BETTER THAN SARAH. OBVIOUSLY THEY HAVE DIFFERENT STYLES. HER THROUGH THE RAIN VERSION IS DEFINETLY MUCH BETTER THAN REGINE'S. RACHELL HAS MORE CONTROL OF HER VOICE. I REALLY LIKE THIS GIRL.....

I beg to disagree na mas maganda ang version ni Rachelle ng "Through the Rain" than Regine. Not to take anything away from Rachelle, cause I like her too, but I happen to buy the Search 4 a Star CD na included 'yong song na 'yon. I can sing Through the Rain too, pero hirap ako sa kanta na 'yon, but as I was singing along with Rachelle in my car, aba, di ako hirap, 'yon pala it's not on the same key as Mariah's. Regine sings it the same key as Mariah, while Rachelle's is probably a couple of notes lower. O ano ngayon ang masasabi mo. Subukan mong i-play simultaneously ang version ni Rachelle and then ang kay Mariah and you will notice the pitch difference... 'Yon lang po...

that's why rachelle's version sounded better. it doesn't have to be the same key , honey...
that's the mistake of regine...that's why sometimes she sounds less appealing. regine should always stay within her range and that does NOT lessen her status...as ASIA'S SONGBIRD... EVERY SINGER HAS HIS/HER OWN RANGE.

Kahit na, I still don't think Rachelle sung TTR better than Regine. And about Regine's range, kung nakayang kantahin ni Regine ang TTR in Mariah's key, ibig sabihin no'n, it's within her range, and that is definitely not a mistake my friend, mistake 'yon kung pumiyok sya. And if you are questioning the quality of those high notes, it still sounds good to me and to a lot of people, baka sa 'yo lang hindi. My point is, there's nothing wrong with transposing the key of a song to fit your voice, but when you start making comparisons between two singers kung sino ang mas magaling in singing a particular song, gaya ng ginagawa mo, you have to consider everything na. So, out of convenience for Rachelle, she chose to lower the key of TTR to fit her range, and it does sound good, but Regine's singing is more challenging and more demanding, kaya mas magaling pa rin ang version ni Regine... The only one who sang TTR better than Regine, in the same key, I think is Nina, kasi bumagay talaga kay Nina 'yong song.

I respect your opinion din naman Joe, at di naman kita pwedeng pilitin na tama ako at mali ka. Kaya lang minsan we should be extra sensitive on how we express our opinions. Most especially if it's about another singer who we think sings a particular song better than Regine, marami talagang mag re-react, and the natural thing for us fans to do, is of course to defend our songbird sa lahat ng paraan. I guess it's ok naman to express it here in this site, kaya nga very exciting 'tong site na 'to eh. But we have to be more subtle about it so not to offend the fans.

Alam mo naman kaming mga die hard fans ni Regine, very defensive...LOL. But I know that you're a fan too, kaya pinatulan kita. :-) Otherwise I would have ignored you. Peace

I won't be surprised if fans make comparisons with
singers who are in the same music class/catagory.

Like Sarah and Rachelle. Both winners at different
times in Reg's SFAF/SFAN. Same age generation, etc..

Can I ask that everyone try not to post comparisons
with Regine? Ya know why..

You can tell me personally if you think some other
artist is a better singer than her. (I like to know
that is possible someday. lolz..) OR if you think
some other artist sang a song better/ recorded or
does a song better than Regine. Because I won't
mind it unless I see malice in it. I always said
if you can't do a saong better than the person
it is associated with (the person who made it a
hit) then why do it at all?

Now Joe says Rachelle's version of Carey's hit
is better? But he probably meant 'it sounds better'
(to him) And that would be his opinion. But since
he said it was better- now we're talking about
something that has to be looked into. That's really
more than just a opinion. You made a statement. And
sometimes they need to be claried or corrected when
its a big one like that. To Regine fans at least. I
can tell you that one will undoubtedly hit a nerve
among hard core fans. And you know that. hehe..

So it will have to be 'nicely' debated. Because your
opinion is being respected here. And will now be put
to the test.

And if you end up being right it could help Rachelle
Ann get a faster acceptance among Regine fans.

So who thinks Rachelle does a good version of Carey's
"Through The Rain." Who thinks its a better version
than Carey herself did? What about Regine's version?
Who doesn't like it all at?!

Remember that some opinions are from people with
different taste.

Please don't post an opinion if you haven't even
hear the different versions. This isn't who is a
better artist. Just what you thought was a better
version. Why, if possible. Maybe Joe from NY just
gone "lovestruck" with his first impressions of
Rachelle.

lolz..

mmJun ;-)

mmJun:

I can't give an opinion. I not only haven't heard
Rachelle's version but havent' even got to hear
Regine do it! (*sob*) I know.. I know.. Such a
sad thing to happen to a Regine music lover like
me. The price you pay for caring. Takes your time
away for fun fan stuff like downloading the song
from Multi-media.

And Joe.. we're going kick your butt good if your
wrong about that. No one gets off so easy with me.
Everyone should know that by now.

mmJun :-}
So you'll watch what you post and be sure about
what you post. hehe..

But she (Rachelle) definitely looks like a cutie.
What's the opinion on that? ;-)

----------------------------mmJun-----------------

SideThought-
Rachelle Ann Go is looking good. So far..
Don't no one go jumping the gun and shouting
she's a superstar yet because most of the
music jury is still trying to hear all the
evidence. Meaning her new album. There have
been many one-hit wonders out there. And she
does have one major glaring 'glitch' stuck
to her. Its being managed by the same people
who are grooming Sarah Geronimo. And some of
their moves aren't being looked upon as
the best thing for the artist.

But that itself is just an opinion
that is still very shaky, I'll admit.

Well, I finally got to hear Rachelle Ann on the radio.
It was her version of "Don't Cry Out Loud" that was
included in her first music CD release.

And It's pretty good!

Sounds like music for my ears to meh.

Now that's a little better way of saying it. And like what mmjun said, avoid making a dead-end statement when you're sharing an opinion, like what you stated "that's why she sounded better than regine" (bad), but rather make it a point to say "in my opinion" or "sa akin lang", so that it shows that you acknowledge that other people might think otherwise... :-)

i beg to disagree. well, you might be referring to the performance of Regine (TTR) in SOP when she had colds. remember that? it was her first time to sing TTR. i agree that she didn't do it good. kasi obvious na she didn't know the song; much worse, didn't rehearse it well kasi pati tempo mali. but the next time she sang it, naku, bumawi ang lola! there were notes she curved higher. she gave it her ownn interpretation and i liked it better than rachel's... and even mariah's.

if you caught rachelle ann's concert on tv (or even watched her live) you would say na marami pa talagang kakaining bigas si rachelle para mapabilang sa league ng mga tunany na mahuhusay na singers at concert performers...in terms of creativity rin nung staging ng concert nya, wala ring extra ordinary...imagine her opening number eh ginaya sa r2k concert ni regine..nakabitin siya while singing mariah carey's butterfly...there was also a portion in the concert when she tried to imitate her contemporaries, pero di pa rin patok...at yung energy level nya ay pakonti nang pakonti habang tumatagal yung show. talagang makikita mo na mahina ang stamina at pagod na pagod na siya as the show progressed...siguro yun yung mga bagay that she still has to work on...sa panahon kasi ngayon, almost anybody can just launch an album or stage concerts...sana lang pinag-iisipan namang mabuti at inihahanda sila para sa mga events gaya non.

i definitely agree with you, Jill. She still has a lot to learn because she's just starting but for a starter, her concert was good enough, she danced, sang and did almost everything from Mariah, Celine, Regine, Kyla, Nina, Sarah, J-Lo, Beyonce, Jojo, Britney, played the drums and hit a soaring 5th octave whistle or whatever so what do you expect to happen, of course she will get tired cos she's only human not a robot. It's a good thing she didn't play the guitar yet or else she would be more than exhausted. Partida pa nga yan kasi si Sarah and Regine nag-submerged vocalization kaya ang mga lungs nila nag-expand na from the natural lungs they had pero I have no offense meant here coz truthfully and honestly, Rachelle still respects and will always look up to her idol, Miss Regine Velasquez. God bless!

I'd like to add and make clear that I really didn't mean to offend anyone with what i posted above. I just meant that, for me, everyone has his/her flaw. Just like Regine who gets colds or cough and is not exempted from any sickness that's why she sored once when she sang TTR but recovered it better when she was already well and in great shape, so she did sang it with soaring high notes, no doubt about that and she will always be THE ASIA'S SONGBIRD reigning on top of them all, so is Rachelle who easily gets tired because maybe of lacking lung power due to some reasons but for a starter as I've mentioned, she is good enough for me...and you're right, Jill, marami pa siyang kakaining bigas. Rachelle will still learn a lot and learn most of them from one of her idols, Miss Regine Velasquez. May I reiterate as I mentioned in one of my posts here that as a witness, I've seen, felt and heard Rachelle's humility, acknowledgement and her due respect to the one and only Asia's Songbird, Miss Regine Velasquez. God bless everyone!

You're gonna be grounded for sure!

Rachelle Ann: Star soars, school suffers
By Cris O. Ramos Jr.

LAST March, 17-year-old Rachelle Ann Go was one of the 10 hopefuls included in the finals of the television talent show Search for a Star. When the dust finally settled, it was the San Beda College student who stood tall winning the grand prize of P1 million and a recording contract with Viva Entertainment. What followed was a roller coaster ride of singing appearances that culminated with her joining the winners of other TV singing competitions in Night of the Champions before a sold-out crowd at the Araneta Coliseum.

Rachelle Ann Go

But all that success came with a heavy price. “It was already our finals week in school nung palapit na yung heat of the competitions,” Rachelle relates. “Understandably, my professors can’t give me special favors, so I decided to drop out because an opportunity like Search for a Star doesn’t come out everyday while college will always be there.”

And what did her professors say about that? “That’s what they also said!” says Rachelle with a smile.

Now, Rachelle braces herself for another challenge with the release of her self-titled debut album. The album brings to fruition the many hours she spent in singing lessons as a child and her experiences joining amateur singing contests. The album symbolizes the fulfillment of her dream to become a singing star. The day of the champion has indeed arrived.

Produced by Eugene Villaluz alongside some talented names in the local music industry, Rachelle’s self-titled debut showcases her remarkable song styling and her wide vocal range. The album appropriately begins with “When You Find Your Voice,” a song about finding the right avenue to express your feelings and thoughts to the fullest. One-man hit factory Vehnee Saturno contributes “From the Start” and “Stay in Love with You.” Arthur Madrigal chipped in the only Tagalog song in the album entitled “Kung Alam Mo Lang.” Melvin Morallos came up with “Love Won’t Let Us Be.” Former Neocolours member and seasoned musical collaborator Jimmy Antiporda composed, arranged and produced two R&B-flavored songs for Rachelle Ann, the ballad “Here I Am Again” and “Give It All.”

Rachelle Ann’s singing prowess is further put to the test with attempts to put an original stamp on some old favorites. Leading the arsenal covers is Rachelle Ann’s own take of South Border’s “Love of My Life,” as arranged and produced by South Border’s chief songwriter Jay Durias. She also recorded two compositions of the late Peter Allen, “Don’t Cry Out Loud” and “We Wanted It All.” The latter was recorded as a duet with rising star Christian Bautista. Other classics covered in the album include “Dreaming of You” by the late Latina diva Selena, Rachelle Ann’s Search for a Star winning piece “Through the Rain” (originally by Mariah Carey) and “Solitaire” by Neil Sedaka. Rachelle Ann initially laughed at the idea of recording the latter after Viva had her listening to the original version (“Ano ba yan, nung panahon pa ng kopong-kopong yung kanta na yon,” she quipped) but loved the song after hearing her own version.

Truly, Rachelle Ann Go still has a long way to go, which is why she isn’t so excited about catching the acting bug like fellow singing champion Sarah Geronimo. “Enjoy muna ako sa singing,” she says. “This is what I’ve always dreamed of, after all.”

mmJun posts:

Rachelle Ann! You stopped going to school?! Boy, is she
going to be in trouble with Regine Velasquez. The Song Bird
also stopped her schooling before and it has been one of
her few regrets for not finishing it. Regine mentioned
something in an article recently about Sarah Geronimo
not paying as much attention to her school too. Tsk, tsk..

You in trouble, Girl..
lolz. (just kidding)

Its Viva.. Rachelle's management that Regine should cap on.

But I like to do it first before her. I didn't like
that one poster of them (group recent Dome concert)
where all of them weren't smiling. You'd think they
got big headed and arrogant. The poster of them on
the front of this group is great poster. Look
at those smiles! Viva. Sus..

Anyway. Greetings to the members of this Rachelle Ann
mailing list. I'm Jun Manalang. And if her CD turns
out to be as good as the media push is saying it is
then I'll be posting her fan web sites, forums and
mailing lists in the Music Inside Buzz.

So fans are encourage to help keep the site informed
and updated on any of her latest music news for
posting there.

tsk tsk tsk... regine is far far better than rachelle ann so stop comparing rachelle to regine kasi baka mapagaya siya sa maraming pilit idinidikit pangalan kay regine ayon...nalaos..

mmJun:
Dang.. Joe got a point there. hehe.. But the comparisons
with the new breed does get annoying. Because they are
from Regine's own show! And knowing that girl's personal
musical character like we all do- you know what she would
like to see most is any singer coming out from under her
wings to excel out there in the music world. Even try to
be better than her. Which at this moment looks pretty
unattainable. For the unofficial record, R2K is believed
to have sold more than ONE MILLION COPIES. I like to see
any of the new breed of singers get close to that one.

Wat?! You don't believe it? Sus.. old news. You think Viva
put up that famous 2-day R2K concert of hers by blind faith
alone? hehe.. Boss(y) Vic is first a businessman. And he
saw what I been hearing about first hand- That R2K by the
5th month of release was already the year's biggest seller.

By the time the concert came out it was already passing its
first diamond status. Everyone on RVML at the time heard
the hints about it. And incredibly R2K was in the top 5
of the music charts for 11 straight months! It wasn't just
a monster seller. It was 'da monster' seller of all time
for a local artist! Sorry to say she had to be under Viva.
Because they wouldn't acknowledge that feat like Universal
Records would. *sigh*

Regine's R2K site-

known more as the Regine picture Bin.

Because its no secret that Regine's Ex-handler
hated the whole R2K project with a passion!
For some reason.. But this site was a celebration
of her best selling and most awesome made album.

Opinion from a spectator:

This word war will never end if you dont stop comparing singers....and please leave Through The Rain behind.... it's so 2 years ago.

Through the Rain is one of Mariah's most difficult songs....
The song itself is not as high as the previous songs Mariah did. In fact, the climax of the song is a repetitious loop of the the same series of notes althroughout with slight deviations when she pulls the word "I" and "through" on the last chorus. Otherwise, its a fairly average song.

What made the song difficult is the way it was composed. And what style of singing Mariah had in mind.

Now, any "sane" singer will not try to copy Mariah's every note, melissma and deviations to pull that song through. For sure any singer who tries to sing that will gasp for air and end up choking with the notes.

When Mariah recorded that did you really think that the end product was a result of one take? They tried to select segments of every take which sounded good to come up with one patch of TTR.

For sure in every take Mariah would have sung it differently in some way.

Mariah's voice conceals the choking when she sings live because her voice has the natural husky texture. The "piyok" comes in naturally.

Regine's voice is rather plain, and has a thinner pitch. If she chokes on a note, it won't be left unnoticed.

The style:

Mariah has innovative ways of singing it. She can skip the bridge and just whistle. She uses a gospel choir to add more power. When she sings it straight... it doesnt sound all too different from the original. All because it was designed for her voice and style.

Regine sings it the way she hears it. That can sometimes be a problem. Her rendition is remarkable.... considering that it's live... we know she can hit the notes... but as one said... its not the notes hit... its the quality. When you are gasping for breath just to prove that you can hit them all... it's not worth it. It compromises the beauty of the performance.

Rachel.... sang it probably a fet lower. Unnoticable lower. Actually, she started it on the same key as Mariah's. the shifting is where she moved a fet or 2 lower than the Original version. Nice move for the arranger. Now Rachel moves on a comfort zone... a place where she sounds great and eventually creates an illusion that she hit the same note... so easily.

It's not fair to compare Rachel and Regine... or Regine and Mariah.
They have different styles and techniques.
One thing is for sure... Regine can hit Mariah notes.... not Rachel

BUT..... Regine is not meant to sing Mariah songs.... it just doesnt qualify... She just sounds tired and offbeat and or too streched when she adjusts to Mariah's style. Their vocal dynamics are far different. I want to make it clear that this is not a basis of who is the better singer, rather it helps determine what material a singer should choose to sing.

If you relize that the material doesnt sound good when you do it... better leave it to someone who can do it better. Regine can do better Streisand and Carpenter Songs than Mariah....... but Mariah can do Franklin and La Belle better than Regine.

Rachel... on the other hand is a very talented singer who is yet to discover the muscal path she wants to straddle.

Galing naman ng explanation mo. Cute ka ba? Pakasal na lang kaya tayo? LOL.

Agree ako. Mariah's recording has been enhanced and pinagdugtong-dugtong nga lang. You can actually notice it if you listen to it keenly. Hindi tuloy-tuloy ang pagkanta nya, and you can notice it sa breaks and breathing sa recording, or wala ngang breathing, which makes it impossible not to gasp for air in between di ba. And when she sings it live, iniiba nya, or may gospel choir sya that sings alternately with her. Mahirap nga ang ginagawa ni Regine to sing it the way you hear it sa recording considering na ilang takes 'yon sa kay Mariah.

Post ka pa Zach ha. Feel ko ang posting mo.

I'm very sorry to reply to your quite a year old message but I just want to stress some points here if you don't mind and please don't get mad at me.

For me, in my own opinion and para sa akin lang, there is no best singer in the Philippines and in this world, not Mariah, not Rachelle Ann nor Sarah and not even Miss Regine Velasquez but none other than Lucifer, the head of the heavenly choir with the angelic voice who fell down right into the Abyss. Anyone who surpasses the latter in singing can be called the next Queen of Hell. As it is written, pride goes before a destruction.

For me, in my own opinion and para sa akin lang, Rachelle is not the best but she is good in and out because she fears God and was brought up very well by her good family. She knows how to look back or lumingon sa kanyang pinanggalingan and as a proof, she even guested in one of Regine's mall shows. Also, as a witness, I've seen and felt her true humility, kindness and benevolence. Furthermore, she always does acknowledge Regine's reigning power, highness and royalty in singing especially whenever she has a get-together with her fans.

She also pays due respect to Mariah. For me, as a respect, she rendered a lower version of TTR so as to have a different attack on the last part of the song when she sang it on S4AS grand finals and just to show that Mariah is far better off than her. On the contrary, I beg to disagree, though, that she can't reach any of Mariah's notes in any of her songs, if that's what you're pointing at(but if not, I apologize and stand corrected in advance). If you haven't heard her sing Never Too Far yet, well then I think you should. She always does it her own style(without ruining the song-still sounds great) and in that song, she did a twist on the last note by whistling instead of hitting it with a usual falsetto(she's the only one I heard who did that live-she didn't undergo submerged vocalization training in the sea or drum filled with water-could be the reason why she easily gets tired when singing but it just comes out naturally-I mean her vocal prowess- add to that, she even has a heart ailment problem, I guess). She also plays the drums, dances like a pro and even strums the guitar. So, you were right in mentioning that she is quite talented and so she is a talent to reckon with. All of these talents were God-given and she's just sharing them with us to inspire us, especially me. I'm not bragging about these but just informing you the truth.

For me, in my own opinion and para sa akin lang, Miss Regine Velasquez is so proud of her daughters, Sarah, Rachelle and Jonalyn(I hope Viva would come up with a concert of Regine having the three princesses as guests in one enormous venue). On the other hand, for me again, I believe Rachelle gives back all the glory to God, will forever be grateful to Miss Regine and Miss Mariah with all due respect and will always acknowledge the one and only Asia's Songbird's supremacy in the music industry, like forever.

Finally, for me again, I "reiterate", para sa akin lang po, nobody's perfect and no one is the best, no not one, only GOD. May God bless you all and peace be with you. If you even have the slightest thought of reacting to the last few words, don't even blink or you might have alraedy been blasted off in hell.:)

Hehehe... great reply... really appreciate it. I also stand corrected... yes I heard rachelle hit higher notes...
=)

And after all this discussion.... it really is just a matter of preference....

I mean..you know, regine and mariah have nothing to prove na.... Mariah's glory days are like over a decade ago... all when her voice was young and vibrant. Everything fades away. Mortensen mentioned that regine has a regular show.. and all.... that's true. And it also has taken its toll. The voice quality is now different.
Mariah may not have regular shows, but hell she's been on tour... would tour for how may years...over a decade as well... I believe that's as taxing or even worse.

Some may like regine better than Mariah or otherwise. That's a matter of choice...
rachelle... on the other hand is getting better and better..
so does Sarah... give the girl some props. Damn, I heard her sing the greatest love of all... and I have to swear its the best version from a pinoy artist that I have ever heard of.

Filipino musicians will always be some of the best in the world.

Christmas is nearing.... does any of the artits mentioned above have an upcoming CChristmas album?
Mariah is coming up of a re-issue of Merry Christmas with addt'l DVD tracks.

Peace lang and enjoy the music.

ohhh...perhaps so.

mariah has been "cheating" in some ways to make her songs incredolous...particularly when live. regine does not..she's just a great singer. sometimes regine sounds strained it's perhaps because of her many singing commitments...mariah, in america, is not like that, she's prepared and all when she performs. and that's good. she doesn't have a weekly tv show...and other daily commitments..i GUESS..ohhh..

overall...i still prefer regine.

i think if regine wouldn't sing for a couple of weeks...and rest her voice then after, render mariah songs...it will be great for sure

I really think that Rachelle is a better singer than Regine Velasquez and Sarah Geronimo. Ok na sana si Sarah pero ang ayaw ko langsa kanya ay wala siyang sariling style. Minsan ginagawaya niya si Celine Dion at meron rin times naginagaya niya si carol Banawa.
