MOTHER LILY THE PIANIST JOINS McDO CONCERT
DO you know that Mother Lily is an accomplished pianist? She studied
piano in school and held several recitals. "I can also do it ouido,"
she says. "The moment I hear the melody, puwede kong kapain sa
piano."
Now, she will accompany George T. Yang, president and chairman of
McDonald's Philippines that's celebrating its 25th year in the
Philippines with a silver anniversary dinner concert, "Love Ko `To,"
on September 6, at the Makati Shangri-La. Their number will be "As
Time Goes By" from "Ca-sablanca." Mr. Yang, a tenor, will serenade
his guests doing solos of classic opera and modern hit songs. He
will also be doing duets with his special guests: Andrea
Bocelli's "The Prayer" with top McDo endorser Sharon Cuneta, "When I
Fall in Love" with Pops Fernandez, and the opera piece, "Libiamo",
with soprano Rachel Gerodias, his voice coach. Other guests are Jose
Mari Chan (who'll do a duet with Korinna Sanchez), Leo
Valdez, "American Idol's" Jasmine Trias and stage actor Michael
Williams who'll also be the show's stage director, with Gerard
Salonga as musical director.
How did Mr. Yang discover he can sing? "I can carry a tune even when
I was still in school, but I never thought I could sing like a
professional until the karaoke craze came along and friends
encouraged me to take singing more seriously. Jose Mari Chan
produced my first CD while another friend urged me to go classical
so I started singing operas a year and a half ago, for which I have
to change my voice placement and breathing. I've since recorded two
other CD's. But they're not released commercially, just distributed
to friends as souvenir items."
Who's his favorite opera singer? "Luciano Pavarotti. He's first rate
in his field."
How did Mother Lily get involved in the show? "The wife of George,
Kristine of Kristine Jewelry, was my classmate in Uno High School
and when I'd escape to have dates with Father Remy (Monteverde),

producer. "I'm doing the concert for George as it's for charity."
Proceeds from "Love Ko `To" will go to McDonald's Charities projects
such as building additional Bahay Bulilit day care centers in
depressed areas done in cooperation with DSWD, Bright Minds Read
Program, and McDonald's World Children's Day. Sponsors are ABS-CBN,
