‘Martin-Pops’ must go on
The Martin Nievera-Pops Fernandez concert at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut will go on as scheduled on Sept. 23 in light of the verbal tussle between the estranged couple, according to the show’s producers.
Group Ole’s Dr. Ramon Legarda told the Filipino Reporter both the King and Queen of Philippine Concert assured him in separate overseas call that they will honor their commitment to perform back-to-back.
Dr. Legarda said he already informed producers from other states that the show will go on, after those producers heard reports that Pops now refuses to appear with Martin on stage.
Dr. Legarda does not deny that he, too, got worried sick by the couple’s bickerings in the media, that even Mohegan Sun started asking questions.
Dr. Legarda said he told fellow producers and Mohegan Sun officials that “the healing process has already began” when Martin apologized to Pops on national television, adding that he advised both parties to refrain from giving further interviews on the matter.
“The preparations for the shows are continuing,” said Dr. Legarda. “After Mohegan Sun on Sept. 23, Martin and Pops are also slated to perform together in Washington, D.C., Chicago, San Francisco and Texas.”
“Martin and Pops are among the most professional artists you’ll ever know,” he said. “They know how to separate their personal lives from their work.”
(A free round-trip bus service will be provided from Jersey City and from Atlantic City to Mohegan Sun. Departure is 9:45 a.m. and return after the concert at 11 p.m. For details, call 914-659-9670 for Jersey City or 609-272-2882 for Atlantic City, Jade’s Store.)
