Philippines -- It's been 20 years since Pops Fernandez successfully mounted her first major concert, Folks Meet Pops, at the Folk Arts Theater in 1983 and went on to perform sold-out shows in huge venues, rain or shine. In fact, her open-air gig Always, amid heavy rains at the Rizal Football Stadium, earned for her the title "Concert Queen," which she still keeps to date.
These days, Pops keeps busy as well with various ventures as fashion retail, commercial endorsements, television work, and concert tours including a forthcoming series in October and November with estranged husband Martin Nievera, himself the "Concert King." Still, the Concert Queen has managed to find time for a rare musical engagement, Pops Live! At The Shang, this Saturday, August 30, at the Rizal Ballroom of the Shangri-La Manila Hotel in Makati City.
This one-night special, a production of Maxi-Media International in association with DSL Productions, will feature Pops performing classic tunes, Broadway hits, and some of the most popular motion picture soundtracks. Show starts at 9 pm.
