IT IS obvious from the way Pops Fernandez finally revealed the real reason for the break-up of her marriage to Martin Nievera that she is still hurting. But this time, there’s no denying that there is now also deep hatred in her heart for the man she used to love and whom she thought loved her in return.
For a time, before their marriage, Pops and Martin were the most popular singing tandem. Their team-up in the TV show, "Penthouse Live," won for them millions of followers.
In the Yes! story, she recalled one of the most humiliating memories she had was when she asked Martin to please tell Katrina (Ojeda) to refrain from telling Pops’ friends that he only married Pops because Pops was pregnant. And that it was his brother, Luigi, who forced him to marry her, "because the whole Philippines will be upset if he didn’t marry her."
Pops clearly remembered what Martin told her: "But it’s true."
At that very moment, according to Pops, she wanted to die.
This conversation happened while they were in an airplane on their way home to the Philippines from Guam.
Katrina is the woman whom Pops points to as the cause of the break-up of her marriage to Martin and is the mother of Martin’s son, Santino, who’ll turn one year-old on Oct. 26.

When the issue of the said magazine came out, Pops had just left for the US for a series of concerts with Kuh Ledesma. There was no way for movie writers to ask her why she had to reveal everything now.
But Pops had a presscon for her Dec. 8 Araneta Coliseum concert before she left for the US. That time, she was in her element.
Thus, when she was asked why Martin was not included in her list of special guests, which included Sharon Cuneta, Billy Crawford, Jay-R and Gary Valenciano, she honestly answered that she’s not sure whether she would invite him to participate at all. She revealed she was still mad at Martin for the "monkey issue" which involved her sons, Robin and Ram, and Katrina.
To recall, she said, a friend told her that Katrina, at one time, had called her sons "monkeys."
In any case, this is Martin’s explanation on the issue: He said the incident happened nine years ago, when he and Pops were newly separated. After he left their house in Ayala, Alabang, he holed up in a one-room apartment. When one time the two boys visited him, they kept jumping up and down in his bed, which was given to him by a relative of Katrina.
The bed broke in two. And he mentioned this to Katrina (remember, it was a relative of Katrina who gave him the bed), who, in turn, must have mentioned it to friends. But the word "monkeys" was used, according to Martin, in this context: "Martin’s son kept jumping on Martin’s bed like monkeys kaya, the bed broke."

Speaking of Pops, her concert is titled "Diva-licious." It is envisioned as a lavish concert spectacle with grand musical productions. Pops said she had it mounted in celebration not only of her 41st birthday (which is on Dec. 12) but also of her 25th anniversary in showbiz.
"Actually, this is a long-overdue comeback for me in the concert scene. Three years din akong hindi nagkaroon ng grand concert in Manila. And I believe I owe it to my fans to give them one this year," Pops declared.
And just what can Pops’ fans except from "Diva-licious?" Fun, high-energy, visually-exciting, surprise guests, etc. "This time, we will give the audience exactly what they are expecting. And some surprises. Like a fashion show with several celebrity friends of mine donning new and beautiful creations by several of our popular designers," she said.
"My two boys, Robin and Martin, by the way, will be in the show, too," she added.

Martin Nievera continues to win his battles

Even if he’s no longer based in Manila, Martin Nievera remains one of local music entertainment’s most colorful subjects, and his personal life continues to be spiced up by interesting tales and unforgettable anecdotes, both planned and unplanned.
Of course, most Filipinos are already aware that Martin has already found a new love and life partner in Katrina Ojeda, a schoolteacher, and they already have a son, named Santino.
I first met Katrina years ago in Cebu during one of Martin’s many sold-out performances in the Queen City of the South. She immediately struck me as a woman of substance and years after that meeting, I can say that Katrina’s level of sincerity hasn’t changed a bit.
A lot of die-hard Martin-Pops fanatics may still be wishful thinking about a reconciliation, but sorry to say that the probability of the two getting back together is nil—what with the constant sarcasm and bickering thrown by Pops camp at Martin, the latest about some petty name-calling incident, which unfairly dragged the publicity-allergic Katrina to the controversy.
Not new to scuttlebutts and intrigues, Martin’s resilience and faith seem to be constantly being put to test. Lately, we’ve all heard about his Las Vegas nightmare.
In 2006, Martin left the Philippines armed with the hope of conquering Las Vegas. But life’s little surprises got in the way and Martin found himself battling one challenge after another. The nastiest perhaps was his liaison with California-based mortgage-broker Gene Gamalinda who was initially his producer but later became the singer’s biggest headache when Gamalinda suddenly disappeared from the scene, leaving Martin and his team at a loss.
Like a brave warrior, Martin faced up to this trial and made ends meet. Luckily, he found new investors who came in at the right time. He could’ve just returned to the Philippines where he still reigns supreme, but in his mind and heart, that would just be taking the easy way out.
His string of bad lucks might be over, and there’s a lot of hopeful days ahead for this Clayton Valley High School graduate—he has just celebrated his 25th year in the music business and he’s home for a two-night concert. Life is tough. But Martin is tougher.
“You have to be strong no matter how difficult the situation may seem. If others can be strong for you, then you owe it to yourself and to them as well to be resilient and determined and brave,” he intones.
Martin also tells me that he’s very excited about his homecoming shows and he sees these performances as his way of giving back to those who have stuck with him all these years. “It’s like looking back, from inside and out, and knowing who’s still there, and realizing that they’re still gonna be there whatever happens.” For somebody who still remains uncomfortable with the concert king title bestowed on him, Martin’s heart is surely in the right place.
Even if he is now based in the United States, Martin remains my one and only concert king. When he’s onstage, he is able to effortlessly mesmerize his audience, transporting us into musical ecstasy with his live-wire acts and spontaneous gift of gab. That’s why when he told me that he’s back in Manila this weekend for a special two-night concert at the captain’s Bar of the Mandarin Oriental Manila, I made sure that I will make time for it.
Of course, his musical director Louie Ocampo will be there together with his band who have stuck with him through thick and thin. The concert is aptly titled “Milestone,” produced by XVR Events, an emerging giant in the live entertainment scene.
As a testament to his musical brilliance, Martin takes another milestone of his career with the release of his 2-disc CD aptly titled, Milestones. It contains 25 memorable tracks that have touched his life and will surely leave a mark to music listeners. Each song corresponds to a year—from 1982’s Somewhere Down The Road when Martin debuted as a singer in the Philippines to his take on the Billy Fayne and Clint Holmes collaboration, “I Sing” for 2007.
“This album is special. It’s 25 years compressed into two CDs. It’s about the sogns of my life,” Martin shares. Truly, the best songs are the ones that are understood by the heart. And Martin Nievera knows for sure that he still can look forward to many more unforgettable songs and a lot more priceless milestones.

Stop stooping to the level of Martin and Katrina, in their hearts, God I am sure will put a vacuum of guilt and remorse on what they had done to you. But you know, God allowed things to happen according to His will because it will in the future be the best for you. and that is if you totally surrender your life, your decisions, your hurts and everything to Him. Let Him navigate your directions, just follow follow and let go let go let go.
As in watching television, try to change station. You do not go to something or someplace that you very well know would hurt you, so go away and spare yourself from the people, the things that are causing your hurt.
Also, as your big sister, please remember that our bodies are sacred to God should be holy and acceptable when we return them to our creator. I hope that you treat your body with respect not letting anyone manipulate or abuse it. Be careful about choosing the man you go with in a relationship.
Nobody aside from God could love your body and self more than you should. Love yourself, meaning dont let anyone hurt it.
I know it is easier said than done but read it to yourself over and over again until it sinks to your well-being.
Dont be hard on yourself. Let go of Martin, let go of the hurts - both did not do you any good. So away with them.
Beg for a miracle of healing from God He is just a prayer away.
