You are so very right on your objective, as the Miss Universe contest really doesn't allow individual contestants to raise awareness on her own platform, unless she is being interviewed, and makes the top 10 or 15; consider for your understanding that on the other side of the Atlantic, North American viewers don't have the chance to see contests like Miss World, or for that matter Miss Reiña del Café (unless by videocassette), so our only access to Portugal is either satelite or Miss Universe for that matter. After all, it was Marisa FERREIRA, Miss Portugal 1999, who gave to viewers her well deserved nomination for the Miss Congeniality award in Trinidad/Tobago. Even if the Miss Portugal organization chooses only to send a delegate to Miss World,and/or a host of other pageants, that is fine, and very promising that she promotes a platform to increase awareness on Portugal and what it offers to the world at large. I would challenge you to do consider that north americans are familiar with a Miss Portugal due to a Miss Universe participation, and I must say that it was quite impressive that Marisa won that prize amoung her peers, and for many years afterwards (ie..Telma Santos in 2001). We shall continue to look out for her delegates, and hope that she can equally shine just as well as other Miss Portugals'-World or otherwise.
