Thank you for your comment. Bear in mind that the biggest hurdle facing Portuguese contestants these days is not that the competition is so fierce (as we've been told many times) but rather the lack of proper grooming and actual preparations that instill confidence in the beauty queens enough for them to carry this message to the world. Many people who have seen Portuguese models worldwide have told us that Lusitanian beauty is remarkably unique, but it's so well hidden not many people know about it.Portugal is a beauty powerhouse, no question about that, and as you said, apart from the select few over the past 30 years that have risen to the occasion, well, we've not been given that chance. We would, ideally, like to change that. Our aim is to produce the first Portuguese Miss World, and we're doing everything we can to make that happen. The Miss Portugal World 45 is the first pageant themed towards this objective. You'll note that we're in the process of integrating Miss Portugal into visible social causes within the country, as well as working actively to use the name to promote Portuguese beauty (as people and as a country) around the world. The new (and final) Miss Portugal site is up, and you will be able to see just how different the contest, themes, etc have become. We're told we have a good chance, so why not ? all that's missing is popular support. We hope that will change by the time the Miss Portugal World 45 competition arrives. As far as North American viewers are concerned, there is a popular misconception as to what Portugal is (long, sandy beaches, night life in Lisbon, Algarve, etc) while a lot of them are missing out on the core of Portuguese greatness, 1,000 years of fantastic history and culture. We hope the new Miss Portugal will change all that, that's why we're opening the castings to select the most beautiful, talented, and cultured girl in Miss Portugal World 45. Look forward to seeing everyone there !
