It is very extraordinary how over the years the Old Family Red Nose has taken on many different appearances. One reason for this blunder is due to human motives and breeding methods that are both seriously questioned.

For example, many who have Red Colored DOGS automatically assume their line is part of the OFRN strain that began and faded away many years ago. In most cases the breeding of these DOGS died with the breeders who took on the task of breeding them. What we have today is a number of misplaced “titles” and names of other breeders who for some very strange reason use the term “HEMPHILL BRED” when describing their particular line. This becomes very confusing since no one today is a actual “breeding partner” of any of the men who bred the Old Family Red Nose over 40 years ago.

After Bob Hemphill and a few others passed off the earthly scene, along with their DOGS, no one today could rightfully claim they have a high % of Bob Hemphill DOGS or OFRN. This would be a serious misleading concept when describing a particular RED NOSE FAMILY.

Common Sense and the Honest Pedigree put such notions to rest very easily. NO DOGS from the Wallace strains or Hemphill were preserved long enough in the stream of time to be considered even close to those older lines and breeding done by those 2 gentlemen. In other words, none exist today as many are led to believe. Many who have taken the selfish liberty of associating themselves with Bob Hemphill are only fooling themselves. Bob Hemphill did his cull and breeding while he was alive, not from the grave.

The pedigree of the OFRN usually will trace back to the old Irish/English imports. DOGS like Harvey’s Red Devil, Ferguson’s Centipede, Lightner’s Vick and Colby’s Tige are the breeding foundation core of the true OFRN strains. Obviously if a RED NOSE FAMILY contains a fraction of that blood 20 generations back, it would be common sense to conclude that it would have minimal influence in the modern Red Nose Family today, thus not deserving of the term Old Family Red Nose or Hemphill’s So n So attached to that particular breeding strain or line just because its RED in color.

Today there are many RED NOSE FAMILIES. Many, many years ago there was what was called Old Family Red Nose. History proves, that such a line of DOGS do not exist today, nor the men associated with such DOGS. If we are honest about what we have we can take the pleasure of placing the proper descriptive titles to distinguish one line from the other. Using common sense and the honest pedigree makes a world of difference and will help to keep history accurate.
