Subject: Much deserved

I am so happy to see that there is a web site devoted to praise of this fine actor. He will go down in film history - almost undeservedly so, since he has done so much better work - as the one from whom the horrible "Alien" crawled out. It was one of the memorable moments in horror movie history.
But I will forever remember Hurt for some of the finest acting performances I have ever seen.
Has anyone EVER played the Fool in King Lear better than Hurt in the production I saw on American public television's Shakespeare series? I wish I had a tape of that production.
What in the world was the name of that show - I think starring Ryan O'Neil - when Hurt played the homosexual roomate to an undercover cop trying to solve a crime in the homosexual community. I will not stick up for that particular script. But what an acting performance from Hurt!
Likewise "The Field." I would watch that again and again (if I had a copy) to see Hurt's performance in a minor role.
When conversation turns to actors, I tell people that John Hurt is among my favorites - then have to distinguish him from the much less distinguished (in ability) William Hurt.

I am happy to see - now that I have come to look for it - that there are others who share my high opinion of this artist.

The movie with Ryan O'Neil was "Partners".
