6 inch insertion is about the norm....... Get a colonscopy and see how far that thing goes in... About 5 feet or more!!! And its a large bore tube about the size of a garden hose!

Ky, you are going to scare people out of having a colonoscopy. No, the colonoscopy tube is NOT the size of a garden hose. It is about 1/2 inch in outside diameter. I would not fuss except for the fact that a colonoscopy is such a very important part of health care. We need to encourage everyone over 50 years old to have a colonoscopy. It is far better then colon cancer!

Some of our garden hoses ARE about 1/2 inch in diameter. They are cheaper to make that way.

What do they use for lubricant for the colonoscopy? In seeing video clips of the procedure.........the way they push and pull I would think a person would be quite tender at the opening, when all is said and done. Is there a slightly larger tube inserted first that acts a guide/sleeve?
