You are correct in mentioning the "liberating" feeling. At 15, I was as big and grown up as I was ever going to be. I had had enemas by the authority of others. Somehow I needed to "prove" that I had final authority over my bowel function as well as I did over other aspects of my life. There were two ways I could have "proven" that I had this control. For one, I could have refused an enema when someone else wanted me to have one. Alternatively, I could have exerted my authority by making the decision to give myself an enema, one that was totally my own decision and my own choice. That is what I did, hence the feeling of "liberation."

I know this may sound crazy, but I think Fred4 has figured it out well.

I'm sorry, Brandon, for perhaps misunderstanding your original comments months ago when I thought at age 15 you saw the enema bag drying, and unknown to anyone else, you used it to give yourself an enema. I'm not sure about your comments above, but it may suggest that some parent, after four years of no enemas, thought it might be good for you to have one. It doesn't really matter which was the case, since in either case the outcome was your own determination to take an enema but do it yourself.

From your earlier posts, you also noted that you felt the best way of self-administering was in the knee-chest position for easier flow into you and with no added pressure on your colon. Maybe that was the way you got them as a child, or maybe that was something you determined on your own.

Maybe this is too personal, and if so, don't respond to it. However, do you ever wonder if it is important that you take those enemas, and that the decision for you and your brother to get about eight enemas a year as a young boy was necessary? As long as the enemas you take are not too frequent, too large, or too uncomfortably administed (bag height, water temperature, etc.), it may be just that you get cleaned out once in a while and there may be no downside; at the same time, if they are advisable in your particular situation, then you do get this periodic internal cleaning which could be good for your health.

In any event, there may be a good reason for questioning one's reactions, if even just I am the point of illustration. At times I realize more and more that those who I viewed as "perfect" kids, or others who looked like them, did have smelly BMs like everyone, and may well not have had a magical way of handling enemas. (That may sound self-evident, but it was far from what I felt emotionally.) It may have been great if I could have proved that to myself at a young age, rather than to have had the effects it had on me.
