Hi Trixie, When you take an enema, it is usually a couple of quarts. Some individuals can take mofre. When doing a colonic, the colon is filled to capacity , then the valve is released and the water is drained out and the process is repeated. A large volume of water is circulated through . A person does not retain the entire volume which could be gallons for one session. The enema is a single injection . The colonic circulatory in out process.

dear trixie r.- i received at least 2 or more enemas from my mother as a teenager. always got one on the first day of my period when i was cramping. after i got married and was about 5 months pregnant i was so constipated my sister-in-law told me why dont you get a colonic. while i was a little hesitant at first i got a appointment to get one. the therapist was so nice to me. after she inserted the colonic tube in me and started it she had me lay on my back with my legs spread apart and massaged my stomach while the colonic irrigation was going in and out of me. at the present time i am 26 years old and usually get one a least 2 times a month. and i feel it has certainly kept my system regular.

Three enemas are nowhere near the amount of fluid as a complete and thorough machine colonic. But in my experience, the colonic is much more comfortable than an enema because you're not required to hold the solution till perstalsis is induced. When you feel a gentle pressure, all you have to do is tell the therapist and she'll open the valve, and you'll feel instant relief. It's a very gentle process. The rectal speculums used for colonics are typically much larger than an enema nozzle, but it's really not all that bad having one inserted. They're anatomically shaped and lubricated to prevent rectal discomfort.
