Mother tells this story from many years ago. She grew up on a farm. The next farm over had two families, sisters actually, that live in two separate houses on that property. The three girls knew each other and often visited one another. And each sister had four kids each. Well one day it seems that one of Mary's kids ate some wild berries or something to excess. None of her youngsters felt very good. Mary decided to give the one kid an enema to relieve the illness as was the normal procedure. Mary started to fill the enema bag and was ready to apply the nozzle to her youngster. Some how she dropped it and it burst. It was quite old and the eyelets had torn out the last time she had used it.
Mary called her sister Barb to see if she had an enema bag she could borrow. It happened on a sunday. Barb said that her own enema bag was thrown away as the cat had pounced on it and caused it to spray water from many toenail punctures.
A week earlier Barb had seen an ad at the local Rexall drug store for a 1 cent sale. She had ordered one of these enema bags and for 1 cent more could buy a second bag. But they had not come in yet. A little later another friend of all these girls who worked at the Rexall store dropped by to visit my mother. Mary had just called mother to see if maybe my mother could loan the use of her own enema bag. Mother was telling the store clerk about the situation.
A shipment is coming in today said the clerk. Lets go down to see if those enema bags have arrived. Call Mary and Barb back to see if they both want to take advantage of the "Special 1 cent sale on enema bags."
Mother did call and said she would go with the friend and pick up all the enema bags. Mom needed a replacement for her own very old enema bag.
Mother came back with six enema bags. I understand that everyone got a good cleaning out that day!
