I think additives, volume and holding time are the important factors in how thoroughly your enema works. I have used them for many years, and prefer a strong Ivory soap solution with just a hint of Dr Bronners peppermint for "aesthetics". I usually take 3-4 qts laying flat on my back with my knees bent. I hold a minimum of 10 minutes, but try to hold until I leak. Sometimes, I can hold as long as 45 minutes, and feel wonderfully clean afterward. I always do a rinse of at least one qt more than the soapy one. Since my colon is stretched by the first enema, this is never a problem. Of course, I release the rinse immediately.
