I was always told as a young girl, that the Knee-Chest position was best. A therapist told me about 10 years ago that the "froggy-on-the-back" position with your hips elevated by three or four towels is best. Why?? It is all fluid dynamics. The solution never has to go up hill. It just gravitates through your entire colon. My two sons get them this way (at least the first one) as well as my husband who prefers this position.
Now, me the hypoocrite. I still prefer getting them in on my left side, or, if my husband is giving, then the knee-chest position. Occassionally I get them on my back.

Olivia , I also thing the knee chest position is the best. However.it is difficult to maintain this position when giving the enema to yourself. The nozzle keeps slipping out, even a nozzle with an enlarged ti[p. The weight of the tubing helps to pull it out. The knee chest is the favorite of a visiting nurse . The enema just seems to flow in easily. a little cramping once in a while. I can tke more water in this poition. The answer is probably a retention nozzle. the knee chest poition is very efffective. It is best administered by a giver.
